Chiming in late but I did want to say the vast majority of my sponsoring and team support is through email and they love it. If they want a phone call they ask for one and I call. It is more of a time management thing for me than anything, phone calls take WAY longer and need quiet in the background. I do love talking to people and schedule time to make calls but I can't call everyone all the time, I've got too many I am working with! I do think respecting the way THEY want to communicate is important. I think sometimes you can scare people away if you suddenly call when they've been purposely emailing you, too. Yes we need to train people to use the phone but there are opportunities to do that later. I've also found that people who prefer email tend to be more literate and detail oriented, which is a good thing as well.
