Hello all!
I recently applied for a position on Tutor.com and passed the chemistry and calculus exams (quite quickly might I add). I had also planned to take a third exam, physics. After the second exam they prompted me to write something. I never got to actually see the prompt as it was already 3am in the morning (I like staying up late). The next day when I logged in, I found out that my application was denied! ![]() ![]() My first concern was that Tutor.com was a scam trying to harvest SSNs, but I think it doesn't do that (anyone confirm this?). I was/am really confused, and I was hoping that maybe someone might know why? Though I am not a work at home mother, I saw that quite a few members of this fora are Tutor.com tutors or have had experiences with them. I was really looking forward to tutoring for them as I have been tutoring since high school and have recently been hired by my university to tutor students as well. I really love tutoring and the convenience of an online tutoring job was really appealing. Also, does anyone know if I am allowed to re-apply? Or am I just not ever going to be a tutor.com tutor? |

Tutor.com isn't a scam at all. I worked for them for a while several years ago. They are quite reputable.

I can completely understand your concern because it's so hard to trust online jobs, but I've worked with Tutor.com for 4 years now and it's been a wonderful company to work for. It's definitely legit and I'm wondering if there was just a technical difficulty with the application? I do know those subjects are ones that I've heard about them hiring in pretty consistently, so I'd try again! I think you have a great chance of getting hired in those subjects! If for some reason it won't let you reapply, perhaps look on the website for a "contact us" email or phone number, explain what happened, and ask how to reapply from there. Good luck!

How's the pay? The website is kind of vague on that front.

A very similar thing happened to me. Registered, successfully passed three of the exams in areas where they said the needed tutors on, got an email od congratulations and to proceed to the writing session, but when I went to do that the next day it said the application had been unsuccessful. It also said they had sent me an email about it when I never did.
I was very confused by this, and a friend of mine that also applied had a very similar experience with them too. So I decided to contact tutor.com about this and try to get some sort of explanation. I had to wait a long time for an answer and then they just simply said they were not hiring at the moment, and that is why it was rejected. That is the only explanation they gave, which is kind of lame because they are clearly still accepting applications. Something very weird is happening there. |
