So I have been a consultant but my mentor lives very far away and has zero contact with me. I met a lady last fall at a C&c who I have become friends with and want to sign up under her and her upline. So we called the company since I haven't ordered since November and they said I have to wait until August 10 to resign. Is there anyway around this or do I just have to wait it out?

Okay, to be notified of PMs, go to UserCP/Settings & Options/Edit Options. About halfway down the page, there will be a box to check if you want notification of PMs via email.

Subscribing to a thread - go into the thread. At the top of the thread, there will be something that says Thread Tools. Click that and a dropdown box comes down. Click Subscribe to Thread. You will then be taken to a screen where you can set up how often to notify you, etc.
