Smile How to Get More Email Subscribers

Hi Ladies,

I was wondering -- What sort of strategies do you currently use to convert your site's visitors into email newsletter subscribers?

Do any of you use a free opt-in offer (useful PDF, fun worksheet or video) as a giveaway incentive to encourage visitors to subscribe?

If not, why?

Thank you!

I use relevant ebooks and other free stuff as give aways on a couple of my sites, but to be honest I don't see a great deal of difference between subscribers on those and those I don't have these offers...

I think the key word here is "relevant" as I have seen some giveaways where the free offer had nothing to do with the site or article it was promoted with.

I mention this as I saw an ebook for "grooming angora rabbits" on offer at a cosmetic & skin care related blog a couple of weeks ago... not relevant in the slightest and not likely to attract a target audience.

I use this pseudo-viral opt-in technique that has worked decently well for me.

It requires 2 giveaways, both which should be high quality products. The first is just normal email opt-in giveaway. The second, which should be the higher quality one, is given away only if a person has made X referrals to the first giveaway.

Can you explain what you mean by the subscriber making "X referrals to the first giveaway?" Thanks!

I giveaway something of value on my websites. For instance on my site which is about working with animals, I give away a guide to curing dog anxiety. I also have a freebies page which is regularly updated, and alot of people subscribe just to receive updates about newly added freebies and competitions
Hope this helps.

I never thought about giveaways but I can see how that works. I'm going to have to think of something that works with my business customers.

what type of business do you have? ebooks are great to giveaway, if they are related to your business of course. I have lots of ebooks that you can download for free and giveaway as incentive to join your list. They are all at Home - Free ebooks Not just internet marketing, but lots of topics including cooking, crafts, pets etc.

cheers
Angela

Yes, these are called "incentives." An e-book is one kind of incentive. Other incentives (depending on your business) could be a coupon, discount, free 1/2 hour phone consultation, sample, etc.

If your incentive is an e-book, here are some words to make it sound more valuable.

-Call it a report or guide, not an e-book.
-Title it with "7 Mistakes..." or "7 ways to..." People like numbers, and bullet point lists. This report would be only 1 or 2 pages long. Eleaborate a couple sentences on each point.

Examples:
"7 Tips for Grooming Your Dog Without the Fight"
"7 Mistakes You're Making on Your Blog"
"7 Ways to Make $50 Online Today"

-Use the words "exclusive" or "secret" to describe your report. Make them really want it. Increase its perceived value.

-Get a nice ecover made for your report. Go to fiverr.com and pay someone $5 to make an ecover. This makes your report look more valuable.

I'll add more tips as I think of them. Gotta go change a diaper. (Not mine!

RE: ecovers

You can also create an ecover yourself for $3.95 @ myecovermaker.com. For a monthly fee of $9.95 you can create as many as you like. I think yearly is $90.00 unlimited. I use it on an 'as need basis', so the $3.95 works for me.
