Hi, i have questions for those who are working at appen.

i have a task, when i click Start Judging, i receive a notice "there are no hits available. it could be all hits are leased out. please try again later"

..but there are 88 hits available (this has been for 2 days)

anyone know the reason, am i blocked from that task?

sweetpea_isme
02-24-2014, 10:39 AM
The number is rarely exact. It likely just means that the tasks are complete and it's waiting for the client to either load more, or delete the link. There will be more work. The more you work, and provide quality data, the more tasks you will have access to.

keyboardmouse984819
02-24-2014, 03:09 PM
so the more work i do, the more tasks i will receive over time?

coz right now i worked for 3 hours and 45 minutes, and i only made $40 (i do every task available, of course, i do the more paying one then the lower paying)

1 more question. i have already reached the payment limit of $50, how will i receive the payment?

Either a project manager or someone from the finance department will email you. They will need bank information and your paypal account information. The pay once a month. You will receive a paypal transfer for a billing cycle that is under 500$. They will do a direct wire transfer to your bank account if your total is over 500$. If you start an hourly contract, that is paid as either check or DD/wire transfer. There is no paypal for hourly contracts. I started working contracts for Appen in 2012. They are consistent about payments, just make sure your information is accurate when you send it to them. They are not accountable for funds that are transferred to the wrong account.

Well, when I log into the Resource, it has payments for 'all markets except US' and 'within US'. The one for within US states payment will be once a month via check by mail. The 'all markets except US says:

If your total earnings are between $50 - $500 USD, payment will be sent via PayPal between the 1st and 7th of the month. For consultants currently working on other programs, only crowdsourcing payments (between $50 and $500) are sent via PayPal. If your total earnings are over $500, your payment will be sent via wire transfer and will be combined with any other payment you are due that month. Please check with your bank to find out when funds will be available, as fees, policies and processes at your bank may vary.

So, I'm inside the US...what is the payment system? I'm completely confused now.

I have been working for abh on crowdsourcing since January, have yet to receive payment from them I emailed them and they said checks were mailed on February 27th, I emailed them on March 14th. On the 18TH they said the check was returned to them they said the address was right so they sent it back out still nothing. I am done working for them until I receive the 2 checks that I have earned.

sweetpea_isme

I'm sorry that keeps happening for you. I worked on others projects, for Appen, without conflict... so I can assure you they do pay. But I haven't been on the Crowdsource project for a long, and I've got that same skepticism I had (when I first started), until I see that first paycheck. They changed the methods recently, so I don't think that's helping. Stay on top of them about it, hoping it gets straightened for you ASAP!

Search Evaluator usually has a set amount of hours, but most often only requires an amount of hours per day, and not *when.* However it all depends on which client you are working for. Some projects require business hours.

It all really depends on the person, their pace, and their accuracy. In CrowdSource, the tasks change all the time, and some are really short projects, so there is no guarantee what you'll make from one week to the rest. But if you qualify in lots of projects and are good at them, more skilled tasks will come your way. Stay up to date on guidelines, as well. Often, the client will start going through the data that we are providing and find that they need to tweak the expectations to develop more accurate results.

why don't people like to do porn tasks? is it just preference or do you have to fight many viruses if you do them?

Redleg95
04-30-2014, 07:18 AM
i've never run across a virus but it's probably more of a preference for people.

especially if you have kids running around the house, definitely don't need to hear: "daddy, why are there naked people on your computer?"

and the fact the majority of them are $0.01 doesn't help.

I just got hired to start the training and testing process for hourly work. Does anyone else here work for them on an hourly basis? How hard is the test and do you get more than one chance?

Also, I was told payment would be by paper check or direct deposit, and I'm in the US. So at least some people have a direct deposit option.

Im new to the site and to Appen. I just started Crowdsourcing and on the FAQ page it says I will be paid by check and it will be mailed to the address in my profile. To update the address use the Time Management System. What Profile?? The address from my application? And I've never logged on to Time Management System or know where to find this. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

i don't think the Time Management System is for Crowdsourcing.

Also the application shows "In Progress", but in my resume under qualifications it shows pre screen test 50%....i don't get it....am I disqualified or yet to be evaluated...???

Quick question:

I'm a Crowd Worker (started two days ago, woot!). What is the max number of hours can you work each week? I know Search Engine Evaluators have a set # of hours to work.

Thanks!

sweetpea_isme
07-01-2014, 11:41 AM
CrowdWork is different. As long as there are hits available in tasks you have qualified for, you can work as many hours as you want. No set hours, no schedule. They don't always load new work on the weekends. But there is often lots left from the weekday loads. My advice is to test and qualify in any and every task you see, the work just keeps piling in then.

It is like click work, but the pay is better. Some tasks pay better than others, but I've never made less than 13.50/hr in a given task/week. I looked at my year to date and my hourly avg for all hours worked is $27.50/hr. The problem is it's impossible to make enough hours for that to have more than a "part-time" wage impact.

Hello.

I've received an email from Appen about their crowdsourcing project this week, and they told me to sign a contract within 24 hours. Now they told me that I should receive another email from day within 7 days about "my tools".
Does this mean that soon I'll be working with them, or do I still need to pass some qualification process?
EDIT: read a thread in here and it seems like I got the job. Still wondering if I have to do some tests, though.
I liked what I heard in this thread about their payment, I expected much lower, $12/hour on average would be great for me. Do they fire people easily? Are there opportunities to grow and make more money?

Thanks a lot!

sweetpea_isme
08-11-2014, 08:15 AM
For Crowdsourcing, they don't seem to fire at all. It sounds like you're "in," but there are qualifications for individual tasks. They pay is good, except that there are times when there doesn't seem to be a lot of work. You can avg a high pay/hr average over a period of time, but there aren't always lots of hours of work.
