Hi guys.
Ok, here's my problem. I LOVE cats and would wish to own one, but at the same time I'm afraid of them lol. I know it probably doesn't make sense to you but, it is what it is. Any tip on what I should do please? Or should I just forget about it?

Hi:
I owned dogs growing up. I was a bit scared of cats too because of the sharp nails. When my husband and I got a dog but worked so many hours we decided to get a cat for company for the dog. I thought if it didn't work out I could adopt the cat out because I was never a cat person. Now, many cats later (I am currently owned by 7 and have a small cat sitting business), I've turned into more a cat person than dog.
What is it you're afraid of? Do you have any friends with cats that you can visit and get to know? I would go to a local rescue and spend some time with cats. They are wonderful creatures with great personalities.
Best of luck. I hope you are able to allow these wonderful creatures into your life. Please keep us posted.

Thank a lot for the response.
I'm actually afraid of their eyes and claws. Actually, to be honest, I'm afraid of all pets. Maybe a bit more afraid of cats than others. I love pets, but I can't get the fear out of me, especially with cats. I grew up in a family with pets, but I always distanced myself because I was afraid of bits and scratches. I tried to get over it couple of times by getting different pets. After some time, I had to give them away because I felt like it wasn't fair for them to have an owner who was afraid as opposed to one who would give them more love and care.
Anyway, thanks again. I'll try to stay around people who have cats; great idea!

Did something happen with cats or any other animal to make you afraid? If you really want to have a cat as a pet, you should try to spend some time with them prior to taking one home.
As BarbB mentioned, it would be a great idea to go to a local shelter. If you have a few hours a week, you can volunteer to spend time with the cats in particular so you can understand their needs and demands. It would also give you insight into whether this is the right pet for you. You might even fall in love with one and bring that one home.
I always grew up with dogs but when I was living in an apartment, my husband and I rescued cats from the street (we were in a city). It completely opened my eyes to what wonderful pets they are. All cats' personalities differ, of course, but their nature is inquisitive and loving. Most just want attention.
I'd be happy to help--I really love all animals (we just got a mini pig--see my signature!) and I believe they make wonderful companions.
