View Full Version : OT: Breeze Litter System for Cats

I know this is completely unrelated, but I was hoping someone had thoughts.
I have two cats and love the Breeze Litter system. Instead of litter, it uses pebbles. This is easy to clean up and helps with the smell. The system also separates pee and poop. So, when the cat poops, it goes in with the pebbles. When the cat pees, it goes down into the pee pad. It's really a lot easier to clean and keep up with.
I have a 5 year old cat who has been using the Breeze system for about 1.5 years. It took her a couple of weeks to adjust, but she has never had problems.
I also have a 6 month old kitten. We've had him for 4 months. He adjusted to the Breeze system right away. Unfortunately, we've noticed he's started having problems with it. For the last 2 weeks he's been pooping right beside both boxes (We have two).
Then, I woke up today and saw the smallest pee spot nearby. This is the first time that I've found pee. I always clean everything up right away and use carpet stuff to try and get the smell out.
He's not showing any signs of being sick and is interactive. I'm not sure if he's just going to reject the system now that he's older? I would hate to have to switch to litter for him, but I'm wondering if that's the best bet? :(

If he's not fixed yet, that might be an issue, it might simply be a territorial thing. Also, something may have happened to him in the litter box. Someone/thing may have spooked him in the box causing him to be wary of using it.
I'd also watch for UTI or bladder issues, sometimes they don't appear before the problem is really bad. A call to the vet might be worthwhile even if your cat is fine now.
I had one cat with a UTI and he didn't show any signs until he was dying. He'd been playful and his normal self one night when I went to bed. Got up the next morning and he was in the bathtub not moving. We rushed him to the vet and they found his bladder about to rupture and highly infected. $800 later, he was better and on a special diet, but four weeks later, the same exact thing happened. He was fine when I left for the grocery store, returned and found him in the bathtub not moving.
Again, I rushed him to the vet, only ours was out of town, so a different vet examined him and looked at the x-rays from the previous visit and found his bladder was deformed and bacteria was trapped in a pocket. The bladder reconstruction was $8500 and the vet said the odds were not in his favor that he'd even survive the surgery, so he recommended putting him down. That was the hardest thing I ever had to do because he was only 2 years old.
My parents just got a kitten who won't use the litter box, so I told them to get some of the Cat Attract litter and that stopped the problem, but I don't know if you can use that litter or additive with the Breeze system.

Oh my goodness, what a horrible story! :( If he keeps this up for a couple more days, I think I will call the vet.
He was fixed at 2 months, so it shouldn't be a spraying territorial issue. He is more aggressive then the older cat, though.
I won't be able to use that litter in this system, but if I need to switch to a regular box and litter, I will try that! Thanks :)
