today i tried surfing!

i'm so happy about it. (should i say stoked?) i've always wanted to try it and have recently been "practicing" by swimming around on a floaty raft. i wanted to build up my arm muscles.

well, an ex co-worker of my hubby's is visiting from japan and he wanted to do surfing. i was expecting the three of us to get a lesson, but instead we just kind of rented boards and had at it.

the friend had tried it before and he gave us a mini-lesson...but it was in japanese! haha.

i think i did best the first time. he kind of pushed me with the wave and started shouting "stand up! stand up!" it all happened so fast, that i just stood up and was ok.

the other times i kind of wiped out immediately and without someone around telling me when to stand up, my timing was a bit off. one time i kind of hit a super big wave (well, to me...not at all like what you'd see on a movie or something) and it pummelled me into the water.

the most fun was like after an hour and a half, we were getting super tired and decide to go in. i started swimming towards the shore on my board and somehow caught a big wave. i didn't stand up, just held on tight, and it rode me almost all the way to the shore. it was *so* fun.

i think i snorted so much salt water that i'm never going to have sinus issues again. haha.

i bet my arms/shoulders will be in a lot of pain tomorrow. but i can't wait to do it again!

love,
shannon

Shannon,
So glad you had a good time! Sounds like you did well and I'm sure it only gets better as you do it more. And what great exercise!

Surfing is something I probably couldnot do because I don't like going to far out in the oceanhttp://forum.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gif

Shannon, that sounds like so much fun!!! I would be too scared to do it because something about the big ole ocean and what all is in it freaks me out, LOL. But, I admire you for doing it!!! I bet it is great exercise!!! You'll have to let us know how you are feeling today after that great water workout!!!

actually, i'm not very sore at all!
just a little tight in the shoulders. woohoo!
i think next time we'll try to go on a weekday since there's a lot of tourists also trying it out on the weekends. i was so afraid of running into someone. there's less people out there on the weekdays.
love,
shannon

Oh how fun! I think I would break myself surfing, though. http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gifI tried wind surfing once when I was younger and I learned a lot about myself ... like I don't have good upper body strength. http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gif
