Online Marketing Ideas for the Computer Novice

Being a computer novice does not mean that you shouldn't learn some great online marketing ideas.  In fact, it's an even better reason to learn about marketing your business online.  The more you use it, the more you learn.

Website

The first thing you should do is hire a professional to build a website for your business.  Sometimes you can barter for this service; it doesn't need to cost an arm and a leg.  This may even be something that you want to attempt to do yourself.  It will be great experience, and there are many websites that will assist you in building exactly what you want, without much complication.

A website will give you and your business an online presence and will give you something to link potential consumers or clients to. Your web address should be listed on all your business cards, newsletters, brochures, etc.

Search Engine Optimization

Search engine optimization, or SEO, is the least expensive tactic for the effectiveness of it. Basically, when you have your website designed (or when you design it yourself), you need to use the most effective keywords embedded in your site.

The keywords should be descriptive and relevant to your site (and what you are offering). This will help to get your website listed toward the top of the search engines

Social Networking Sites

Another very simple thing you can do for online marketing is to take advantage of the many social networking currently available to anyone.  Even a novice can manage to work their way through these sites.

It is a simple matter of registering yourself or your business (or both) and then creating a profile.  You can give as much or as little information as you choose.  Some good places to take a look at are Facebook, LinkedIn, orkut, MySpace and many others.

Write

You do not have to know a lot about computers to be able to write.  Write on your website.  Write a newsletter or eZine about your business or about something else that you can link to your website.  Write blogs on your own site, or contribute to someone else's blog.

You can also write articles that are relevant and interesting and post them online.  When consumers become interested in what you have to say, you have an open line to introduce your business.

Make Connections

Another rather easy way to market your online business (while you work from home) is to enable your potential and current consumers and clients to subscribe to daily information from you.  You can do a few different ways.

Perhaps you have seen (on other websites) the orange square with the letters RSS on it.  This stands for 'really simple syndication'.  Essentially, it is a way for you to connect with your customers by posting a daily headline or update about your business.  It might be about a special of the day or a new product (anything).

Another method of daily connection is to subscribe to Twitter and make daily posts to your account.
