When you're looking for marriage help, you may hear a lot of advice about planning date nights with your spouse. It may seem like a minor issue, but date nights do help to strengthen the marital bond and can stoke a fire under a cold marriage. Hiring a babysitter or leaving your little ones behind may not be an option for you, or you may not be comfortable with it. Here are some ideas for activities that you can plan outside of your home if you're able to leave, and ones that you can do at home:
1. Movie Night...In Bed
If you and your spouse can't leave your home for a date night, consider having a weekly movie night at home. You'll want to make sure that you get started when the kids are asleep. If you own a laptop, consider a movie streaming service like Netflix.com that allows you watch movies instantly on your computer. Another option is to invest in a portable DVD player and get movies from your library or movie rental store. You'll soon find yourself looking forward to your weekly movie nights with your spouse, and you'll have peace of mind knowing that you can pause the movie at any time and assist your children if they need you.
2. Attend a Lecture
Some couples enjoy listening to a good lecture. It can be a great outlet for you if your daily conversations primarily consist of client emails or discussions with your children. A speaker who gives a talk on your favorite subject can provide you with the mental stimulation that can inspire you and your spouse, and draw you closer together. The opportunities to attend lectures may be all around you. Check the calendars of nearby colleges and universities, libraries and non-profit organizations to see the dates of topics of future speakers. Your local newspaper may also list it under its "Events" section.
3. Horseback Riding
A fun date idea that can help your marriage is to go horseback riding. There are hotels that offer it as an activity, and when you're done with the riding, you and your spouse can enjoy relaxing together at night in a cozy hotel room. If you and your spouse are in a fast paced home and work environment, then you'll welcome an afternoon of riding horses and enjoying the view. Some companies and organizations offer a guided tour on horseback, and you may not need prior riding experience to participate.
4. Candlelight Dinner in the Bedroom
Ever since a famous actor announced on a television show his practice of preparing a candlelight dinner in the bedroom for his wife, more couples have tried it and are happy as a result. You don't need a lot of space. A small portable table that you can fold and put away when you're done is sufficient for the job. All you need to do is cover it with a nice table cloth, light some candles and prepare your spouse's favorite meal. Taking this simple step can help your marriage because it helps to create intimacy between you and your spouse.
If you want to be consistent with date nights in order to help your marriage, then you have to schedule them. Avoid doing any work during that time, so that you can give your spouse all of your attention.
