Lemon Rice

Lemon rice is a specialty of the South Indian coastal state of Tamil Nadu.
3 cups Basmati rice
5 tablespoons Lemon juice
2 tablespoons Mustard Seeds
2 tablespoons Urad Daal
2 tablespoons Chana Daal
3 Dried Red chillies
½ tablespoon Turmeric Powder
½ cup Roasted Peanuts
12 Curry leaves
Salt to taste
2 tablespoons Vegetable oil


Step 1
Cook rice in a rice cooker.Once the rice is cooked, keep it aside.

Step 2
Heat oil in a deep frying pan.

Step 3 Add dried red chillies cut into two, urad dal and chana dal.

Step 4 Cook until dals change colour to light brown.

Step 5
Add peanuts and mustard seeds. When the mustard seeds start to crackle, then add curry leaves. Fry for 10-15 seconds.

Step 6 Next add turmeric powder and stir well.

Step 7
Add cooked rice, salt and lemon juice. Mix well, but very gently so that the rice grains does not break. Serve it hot.
