Avon: A WAHM's Guide

There are tons of business opportunities available for WAHM's, and Avon is one company that has been around for many years. Historically, Avon was designed for women to work from home, selling skin care and make up products to other women. Avon has since grown into a multi-million dollar industry that you can find worldwide. Avon sells products that run the gamut, from beauty to home décor to tool sets. When you choose to sell Avon products, you become a company representative.

Starting with the Avon business is fairly simple. You can contact the company directly online or by phone, or you can sign up through a current Avon representative. When you sign up through a current Avon representative, that representative gets an incentive credit so it's nice if you can help someone earn extra money. There is an application that will need to be filled out, and you will need to provide identification. In some areas, there is also a small starting fee. New representatives are provided with a nominal starting package that includes sales books, some samples and business information. You can order more products to start with if you choose to.

Avon is about selling products so the more you sell, the more money you can earn. Avon is also commission based, so your earnings are solely based on what you sell. For example, if you sell $300 worth of products at 35% commission, you can potentially earn close to $100. Your earnings will vary, depending upon the dollar amount you sell, the products you buy for yourself and the business tools you invest in. You will have to purchase more sales books to distribute to customers if you want to sell the products. If you sell enough, $1500 or more per campaign, you can earn up to 50% commission. If you consistently sell a large enough dollar amount, you can earn your way into the President's Club, another way to earn more money. You can also earn money for recruiting new representatives as well. The compensation for that varies, but can be up to $25 per each new recruit.

The best way to thrive with Avon is to set goals for your business. You will have to decide how much money you want to earn and then develop a solid customer base. The great thing about Avon is that most people are familiar with the company so you won't have to do the 'hard sell'.

Is It for You?

Avon is the right business choice for you if you want complete flexibility and don't mind being creative in finding and keeping customers. Avon is also a good choice if you use the products yourself, so you can get a discount on what you use. You will have to follow through with customer orders and order input deadlines. You will have to make arrangements for order delivery or have an incentive program for customers to pick up.

You can conduct almost all of your business online by becoming an Avon eRepresentative too. That means you can grow your business as big as you want and can gain customers from all over, not just in your local area.
