Default Rate of Pay Per Audio Minute

I type 85 wpm and am wondering if .45 per audio minute is a good going rate? I am new to this and I see where many others make .75 to $1.00 but that is mostly for MT and I would be general. Thanks for your help.

$0.45 per audio minute is an abysmal rate. That comes out to less than $30 per audio hour, which for you would be about $8 per working hour.

$1.00 per minute is a good rate, even for general. For medical I would think it would be higher.

Margie63, if you type that fast and you have experience, you may want to consider applying to ANP. They pay .0051 per word which can be $50 to $60 per audio hour or more, depending on the audio quality and number of speakers.

You may also want to consider joining a group or an additional forum to get leads, etc.

HTH and good luck.

Cloakzore is right; $0.45 per audio minute is abysmal. $1.00 per audio minute and up is good. Medical transcription tends to pay on production at so much per line. There are some companies which offer medically-related transcription of research interviews and the like per audio minute.

Definitely take advantage of available resources to research companies and such topics as whether they pay reliably.

$.45 per audio minute is decent like the others said, but I think a good average pay is between $.60 and $1.00 per audio minute if not more.

Jomeg,

Did you mean to say $0.45 per audio minute is decent? $0.60 per audio minute is nowhere near good average pay either.

Abysmal, to use Cloakzore's word, describes both of these rates.

Abysmal means extremely low, as in not worth anyone's time and effort.

Well, I was basing it off my experience. I started off low when I was beginning in transcription. But you are right. The better pay is higher than that.

$0.65 per minute is about the lowest acceptable rate. I don't know when you started transcribing, jomeg, but maybe $0.45 per minute was more money than it is now. Nobody deserves to be making minimum wage (or less) in this industry.

Default Thanks so much

I was afraid of this but thanks so much guys for setting me straight and at least knowing what to accept and what not to accept.

Now I have an idea where before I didn't.
