Hi all,
There's a thread in this forum where people are talking about ways to make a living as a freelance writer. Someone here mentioned resume writing and that's something I never looked into. I'm just getting started with freelance writing, so I'm still discovering my options. But I actually started my administrative career working with resumes for an IT staffing firm (though most of it was scanning resumes and reformatting them rather than actually writing them). I also did a training course for employment specialists a while back (actually a long while back - about 15 years ago!) where we had some training on working with editing resumes. In addition, I've taught college-level business writing courses where one of the assignments I've had to give detailed feedback on for students was a cover letter and resume assignment, so I have the skills to edit resumes and write them for people.

How do you get into something like that? Someone here mentioned certification. I did a little searching on the web and some organization offer certification to those who have experience only. Places I did find that have a certification course seem a bit dicey, especially since one was over $800 and one was $2000, which seems pretty high to me. Does anybody know where you can get certification that is considered acceptable in the industry?

Here is a link to a website that hires resume writers.

CyberEdit, Inc. -- Documents With An Edge (http://www.cyberedit.com/hub/jobs.shtml)

There are other companies that hire them, too.

They prefer people with certification, but I believe that someone on here said once that they got hired even though they were just pursuing certification. They may hire you even without certification because that ad has been up a long time.

Also, I see a lot of people offering resume writing services on Craigslist.
