When I win the lottery I will first set up trust funds for my grandchildren and my nephew.Second I will help my family and friends.Third, buy land in Washington or Montana, land which will be available to all family members.Fourth, there are several charities I will donate to,but first and foremost will be Safeplace,a haven for women and children of abuse.Fifth, I will continue to promote and nurture the business I have begun doing and by doing this-help others.
Then I will turn my land and home into a place where we are as self-sufficient as possible, gardens, solar power, well with hand pump, etc. and I willtake time to travel widely, show my daughters and grandchildren this amazing planet we live on.

If I won the lottery? I guess I would have to play more often than I do, but the chances of that are so small, but still...it could happen.

First things first, of course, it would all be invested properly and the earnings would go for bills, family, vacations, charity donations and obtaining a home more friendly to my arthritis while I designed and had one built.

It's always been one of my dreams to have enough money to do my own design and then have the home built according to that. Have been looking around for another home, but the prices and the layout are just not what I want. I believe homes should be built to be not only very family friendlybut activity friendly as well with everything where you need it when you want it. In other words, the design would be very comfortable, convenient and easy to maintain.

I have to say I agree with some of the other posters, it is more likely that my earnings will grow from my home business efforts than winning the lottery, but am still going to buy a few tickets here and there. You just never know that it could be your lucky day!

Best of luck to all who do play!

I would probably buy a sports car. I am a fan of Lambhorghini.
Thanks for making me dream.

Hope someone actually wins it.

If I won a large amount, I would pay off my bills, help out my parents, pay for my kids schooling and then buy a 1979 Pontiac Trans Am. (I have wanted the Smokey and The Bandit car since I have been like 3...haha !)

I would use the rest of the money to pay off speeding tickets acquired in said Trans Am.

I would pay off all of my wife's and my debts.
Set up trust funds for the kids and grandchild
Give money to my parents and in-laws
Give some to our best friends
Build a house
Buy my great-grandparents house

Lets see that would take about 45 million. So I hope we are dreaming that largesmileys/smiley2.gif

1. Would tithe.
2. Prayer and ask for guidance.

3. Wait for the answer.

4. Follow instructions.

This process never fails.

God speed.

I am actually new to this forum. I just registered and this is my first post. Love the fact that my first post is about winning a lottery. Okay here is my list:

I would go on a holiday
I would buy a house - Mortgage Free
I would help my parents
Some for my sister
I would buy a new car
And the rest - I dont know...But I am sure if I had the money I will come up with the ideas to spend it.

I love dbishop's answer. Couldn't do any better than that. But our hearts are to help build an orphanage in the Amazon jungle (actually in a city of about half a million). We already help this ministry, but would love to help it more!

I actually did win a substantial prize in the Florida Lottery Fantasy Five game- $39K; after taxes, $28,800. This was 10 years ago, and I got my picture in the National Enquirer. because I was holding the "lucky blue dot" when I bought my winning ticket.

Here is what I did:
1. Gave 10% to needy people in my community. Gave it directly to the people in need, mostly single mothers. I promised my Supreme Beings that I would do this if I won, and I was true to my word. I know from hard experience what it is like to be a broke, single mother, living on Food Stamps and Disability, waiting for my accident case to be settled.
2. Gave my son $1000 for his 18th birthday. (he is now 28)
3. Bought my daughter a "whole new wardrobe", which was the first thing she said after I told her that I had won. She was 11 years old then, and will be 21 next month.
4. Had a shopping spree at my favorite Metaphysical book store. Spent about $500.
5. Went back to school to study computers and paid my tuition and bought my books.
6. Used the rest to set myself up in my own apartment and get myself out of a relationship that had gone bad and was becoming abusive.

Man, what a question! I could go on a while, and it would depend on the amount I suppose. Because technically if you win $2 from a scratch of ticket, you did win the lottery...just not much.

If I won the megamillions lottery (here in GA and some other states), I would immediately go to work helping families that are in the same or similar situation that mine was not so long ago. I would help children in my area, at least, have a wonderful Christmas that wouldn't otherwise.

Basics, I would pay off my house, sell it, and upgrade moderately...we need a tad more room for the monkeys. I would also make sure my family was taken care of, no worries on where they are living. Cars would be paid for and any older ones would be replaced and donated (if in working good condition that is). Nothing would be financed. Then, I would put what was left in a high interest rate account, with some tied up in stocks and bonds. I would allow myself a livable salary and let the rest continue to grow.

Oh, one thing I did forget. I would finally start my dream business...but I will keep the details to myself. Just know it involves both children and Earth.

http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gifI'd give to my church, pay off bills, buy a new car and truck, build a new indoor riding arena to share with the public, buy a new horse trailer, new cloths and help out my community with financial gifts to the shelters and CADV Center. I'd also build a new Saddle Club arena, that we need desparately for our youth.

How much did you say to dream with??? I may have over-spent, but it was fun doing sohttp://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif

Then I would fix the hole in my roof. (we has a tree fall on our house last week during a big windstorm)
Then I would do a little mad spending.

Finally I would invest in something that would allow me to live comfortable for the rest of my life.

I would also hire someone to assist me in investing and managing the money. I would pay off my mother's house and buy a house for my family--we are currently apt. dwellers.

I would donate, put money away for my boys, and once that was all settled I would take my family on a nice, long vacation.

WHEN I will the lottery, which I KNOW I WILL, I plan to give to a few ministeries I am involved with, of course pay all I have off and buy a really nice house with the wrap around porch, along with some acreage so my boys will have a great place to run and play. Help people I know out, save quite a bit for later and for my children, and NEVER tell my ex-husband, that way he can wonder his entire life what he gave up!

Interesting question. I definately have been thinking about this for the past weeks, since I have been reading so much stuff on The Law Of Attraction. I imagine I win the Lottery, and I actually have it all planned out now. I immediately pay off some huge bills, renew my passport, purchase some airline ticket to some exotic place in the world, and go take a much needed vacation. Then, I start to purchase a brand new Home in San Diego, in La Jolla, then, buy my wife and children all the toys they can imagine. I buy myself new computer equipment, and start learning all the things I have always wanted to learn, but could not afford. I live my life at a whole new level, new gourmet kitchen, for my cooking, and I actually start to write that novel I've been putting off for years. That's just the beginning!

I answered this question, but reading yours made me think about it a little more. Immediately winning the lottery, the first things I did were for myself and family, but I also know myself, I like to give, and I would love to open a place where people can come eat free of charge. Not just for poor people, for everyone, this way we mesh together, and start to learn things about ourselves that we need to know, especially now in this time. I don't really know how I would formulate this, but it is something that with money, could be done. Money afterall is just the tool, our hearts and love are the power that will make certain dreams come true..
thanks for your comment...see how it made me think.

I guess first I'd put money away for the boys' college. Then pay off the mortgage and cars, and maybe those of our families, build a pool, fly to MA often to see our families.

Then, I guess I'd be selfish and have lens implants in my eyes (can't have lasik), and I'd get acrylic nails... ahh sitting still for an hour...

Then, I'd relax about making money, and take my boys to the zoo...heck, how about Disney (it's only an hour and a half away, and we never go...)
I think maybe I'd sleep better at night too...

Gee, maybe I should buy a ticket...

IF I WON THE LOTTERY :I will give half of the winnings to save the children charities. The next thing i will do is to pay off my mortgage, then i will help all my poor families , i will also invert some of the money for a rainy day . ,and i suppose i will have an exotic holiday then take it easy .
but for any one who win the lottery if you win the lottery put the money in the bank for a while think about it do not make any rash decisions , because before you know it you spend it all and you end upwith nothing . think very carefully take financial advise and i am sure evety thing will be ok in the end with every body happy

If I won the lottery...

I would give God the first 10%
(take my tithe to the storehouse!)

I would seek God's direction
(seek Him in all things!)

Then, unless God directed me otherwise...

Pay off the remainder of my Mortgage

Put back college money for each of my children

Add to each of the children's savings

Leave a bigger nest egg to my loved ones

Give, Give, Give, Give, Give, Give!!!!
All that God asked or directed me to!!!

Of course how much you win will determine how much you can do.

First I would be very thankful and say many prayers of thanks. I'd pay off all of my bills.

The #1 thing that I'd like to do is donate $40,000 to a skate park that is trying to be built in this small town where I live. The park is toHONOR a young man who was killed in a car accident while he was still in high school. He went to school with my daughter and skated with my son.

After those things I'd invest whatever is left and hope it would generate enough income to completely retire. You'd find me on my front porch sipping tea!

I had the pleasure of meeting a million dollar lottery winner at thebeauty salon this summer. Let me give you my list then I'll share that experience with you.

Now my story. I had the pleasure of meeting the wife of Johnny Ely the cook who won the NY Millenium lotto in 1999 . http://tinyurl.com/2t568n (http://tinyurl.com/2t568n). Rosemary, the wife is hysterical.http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gifShe had the salon in stitches the whole time. She is a nurse like I am so I related alot. It wasn't until we started talking about teenagers and some serious stuff that she shared that her husband and her were lottery winners. They built a home in the South and moved everyone down there on family owned land. The grand kids are in schools down there and doing well. She comes up to NY to the salon because she said "they can't do hair down South....LOL" The one thing that stuck out in our conversation is that long lost relatives from all over the world found them! She said her dh is a softy so she had to take charge. She told them "You didn't know me before when I didn't have money and you still don't know me now!" CLICK! I could see her in my minds eye now.
She definitely said its important to consult a financial planner, athat is one reason that they are still enjoying their money now.

My husband could probably quit his job too and we would have plenty of money to send bothmy kids to college. Anything left over would be a nice bonus for traveling. I would first take a 10+% and give to my church (of course) and then I would get my parents a house, pay off our house, make sure everyone had a good vehicle. With the money I had left I would put away and live off the interest. Of course my business will do some of these things so that will be just more money to invest or donate...

The first thing that I would do is buy a truck and trailer so that I could move from Alberta back to where I belong. Beautiful New Brunswick. I would then pay off my brother's debts and set up college funds for my sons, nephews and niece. Then I would help my best friend that lost her husband suddenly, two years ago this Dec. 18th. She deserves to be financially free because it is such a struggle for her now. And last but not least, buy a canoe so that I can go fishing. http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif

Hi Mistyraine, and All!

I do not think it sounds silly at all.

I rarely play the lottery, but I have a list of what I would do, when I do play.....I would give funding to my supervisor from the clinic where I worked with children from families where there had been domestic violence, so she can start a free standing children's clinic. Then, I would fund a research scholarship in my mother's name - not to cure cancer, but to discover the causes of some of the more surprisingly growing ones, since I believe that prevention would be better than any cure. Then, I would set up trusts for my dad and step mom (he married her after mom died of cancer) to give them each ample interest income for life, with the principal to revert to my grown son when they pass. I would start a program to help survivors of domestic violence recreate their lives from the inside out, from self esteem and belief in life, to housing for themselves and their children. I would buy hundreds of acres and start the arboretum that my mom mentioned once wanting to start. I would go to the UK, pick up a little Irish, and a little Welsh, and write bad poetry and hopefully decent prose for a year. I would start a tennis program for underprivileged kids, and hire Rafael Nadal to come and talk about the importance of heart in whatever your dream is - vision, persistence, and sometimes just pure scrappy grit.

This sounds like fun - I may have to buy a ticket tomorrow!

I have racked up some debt in my short life, so the first thing i would do is pay off my bills. But after that, I've got my dreams going! I'll buy a new car, fix up my home but take a large chunk and invest it for my future. I think the best way to dream is not to just say I want a car. Dream the exterior, interior color. What does the stero look like, what type of rims do you have, what size is the engine. Know all these things, and then...you'll be a dreamer. Now go catch them!

I would definitely give my tithe to the Lord....then I would pay off debt, my car, and buy a house for cold hard cash. I would then take a month long trip with my husband and our immediate families to Hawaii. I would give to charities, start my own fashion boutique, and go shopping. Of course, I would have to invest my money and start the road for retirement.

I feel a little silly as I write this because I have never bought a lotto ticket in my life. Seeing how much money my family members have wasted over the years made me sick for them.

BUT, http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gifif I woke up tomorrow and bought a lotto ticket and won I would call my husband and tell him to quit his job andfollow his dream of opening a recording studio.

I would of course pay off my debt and get my parents whatever they needed, pay off my church's building fund, and open up a Native American Jewelry and Clothing Store. In a few years (when my daughter is a little older) I would buy an RV and hit the powwow trail and sell my clothing.

As an internet marketer and entrepreneur I completely expect to achieve everyone of these dreams and more whether or not I hit the lotto. I hope that all of you out there believe that you can do all that you dream of if you put your mind to it, works as you are working for God, and keep right priorities.

Happy New Years Ladies!

Like so many others, I have often dreamed of what I would do if I won the lottery. And since I am dreaming, it might as well be the Powerball. My first move would be to contact my lawyer to help me make the best decisions about where the money should go. After paying off all my debts, both personal and business, I would like to create a foundation like so many of the wealthy, where funds would be distributed to those requiring help for health expenses, non profit arts groups, the elderly, my church, etc.,and establishtrust funds for my children, grandchildren and great grandchildren with receipt of the funds based on age, maturity and educatonrequirements. Of course this would only be possibleif I would buy the lottery tickets - but someone has to win and it might as well be me.

You sound like a real Redneck. Trucks are nice, but you can't pass a Gas Station, ya know? I'm from the North, NY, now in Floridaand the first time I saw an old lady driving a Trike, I nearly had an accident, my head swiveled back and forth in disbelief so fast I had a pain for the rest of the day. Now I see women driving BIG Gravel Trucks and it's so hard to believe. Are you one of those?

The plane thing is good though, I had one for 10 years, just a little c150 2 seater, but it was FUN, FUN, FUN. I flew just about every weekend with my small kids, they LOVED it and always asked me to do "roller coasters" which made them scream. I wish I still had it today. We sold it for 10K, it was a 1971. Today they are worth over 50K for the SAME one. I never got my license, I flew without it, nobody ever pulled me over. Buy I was a GREAT PILOT anyway.

Since it's just a fantasy, dream well, imagine everything you desire, sometimes dreams do come true.

When I was a kid...I used to ask my dad if I could have a horse if we ever won the lottery. He said yes....One day he did hit the lottery and I got my horse (and my education paid for which was even better than the horse).

The horse is long gone, and I am now an"adult" with many more responsibilities.

If I won, I would probably pay off all my bills and build a cabin on our property which is up nearl Lake Superior in Michigan. Dh and I dream of living up there one day and returning to a more simple way of life. Chopping wood, gardening, hiking, kakayking, etc....

Plus, maybe I would buy another horse!

..... I will help all my family who are having tough times and some other friends that are as well...before I even think about spending a dime on myself!

I have always had the feeling that something will happen to me that will allow me to help those in need and those I love.

Its just a matter of time!God knows when the time is right! http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif

It depends on how much I won. Definately tithe first, change my phone number, contact a financial advisor and an attorney, make a new will. Then buy a new car with all the bells and whistles, next give to my kids...but not too much. I believe they need to know they are responsible for theirselves and their families. Put money aside for my grandchildren, help my brothers and sisters. Take a cruise and bring all my friends! Buy the home of my dreams. Travel, white water raft, zip line, hike, see the USA and play.Go onadventures.

If I won the lottery? Okay, I'll first go down on my knees... to thank the one I may never see! Next, I'll give exactly half of the 'loot' to my loving daughter. Thereafter, I'll simply start spending! How? First of all, I'll give scholarships to thechildren of Africa, through my Foundation. Then I'll humbly give out my phone number to the public. Why? I'll sit back and expect calls from people all over the world who desperately need my assistance... financial, of course. "Call me, and I'll be there for you".

All in all, I'll invest in people, especially the young ones, rather than company shares. The future is in the hands of the youth!

I think if I won the lotteryI would feed all those starving babies - I really hate to see any child be hungry. First I would start off in the US and then travel around to Africa, etc. I actually read in the paper the other day that in a really poor part of a county (which now I can't remember), this young 16 year old mother was eating dirt cakes b/c she had to care for her infant, 5 siblings, and two parents adn they had no money.
And watching those late night infomercials about feed the children can be really sad. Then I think I would take my own little shopping splurge with my kids!

NEVER WORK AGAIN!!!BE A STAY AT HOME MOM,I'd learn how to cook, sew,do yardwork, and most of all be able to read to my kid at night and tuck him into bed.As I work 4 to midnight right now and have since he was a year old, this is my greatest wish.I am jealous because this is what his day home provider does for him,and he tells me "mom,I was wishing you would get off early so you don't have to pick me up when I'm already sleeping" Of course with the lottery comes a house and travelling and money for my son,but all I need is enough to let me stay home comfortably and enjoy living.

Wow What A Question "If I won the lottery" I think what you wouldn't do is more important that what you would do. I have read all kinds of nightmare stories about people going crazy when they hit Mega Millions. I however fell like if I hit the lotto I would need to remove myself from alot of people for a while and talk to lawyers and bankers for a while.

Well, first of all, I'd cover what my family needs:

We live in a tiny apartment. We need a house. I wouldn't buy a fancy house, but I'd buy a good one that could withstand the years pretty well! And with plenty of room. I've always said that I want a lot of children!

Pay of all debts including student loans and the car.

Put money in savings for retirement and for kid's college.

Pay off my parent's debt and buy my mom a new car. Her van is falling apart and it's 14 yrs old.

Donate to charities: March of Dimes, Breast Cancer, etc.

Donate to homeless facilities.

Donate to ASPCA, Humane Society, etc.
[/list]

Teach me your way, O Lord, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name. Psalm 86:11...
Well, fear in a good way. Reverent respect and awe is more like it. Trust too. Soooo, I'd like to think my head wasn't so full of itself that I'd forget to pray for guidance. The mind is such a fickle thing at times.http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gif

I LOVE this question. I dream about it alot!!!!

First and foremost, like everyone else, I would probably pay off any debt we had. Then I would pay off my grandmother's and my mother's houses.

Next I would build our dream home. We want an ecologically friendly dome home (we live in a hurricane zone, and they are practically hurricane proof).

I would buy a new truck for my husband.
I would landscape our yard PROFESSIONALLY. I can't seem to grow anything but weeds.

I would give more to the various charities that are always hitting me up.

I would invest some, both in my home businesses and in mutual funds, IRA, etc.and put the rest in savings.

First I would give to the Lord, than depending on the amount of the winnings I would pay off most if not all of my bills, and my families bills. But I would make sure I have enough to help the hunger & homeless. I most likly wouldn't have anything left after helping everyone. So I would also keep working, but I would be blessed.

It's fun to read about what others would do with their lottery winnings and it's fun to play with the fantasy. I've always thought that if you are going to dream, you should dream big. So, when I dream about winning a lottery, it's along the 'mega-millions' line.
First, I would set up accounts so that my family could pay off their homes and send children to college. Whatever they need.
Then, I would build the house I have designed in my mind many, many times.
Next, I would travel with my girls as much as we could. I have many places in mind! Cover the world a little at a time. And I wouldn't have to worry about who would take care of the dog! He could have his own hotel room.
Lastly, I would purchase an apartment building to house women with children who have been made homeless due to divorceand set up a program to helpthem get a new start.(Actually, it's one of my reasons for working my business)
Can you tell that I've given this some thought? Hey, it's fun you can have for free.

If I won the lottery, I would first buy a big house out in the country. It would have to be something with 4-5 bedrooms-that way when my kids begin to have families of their own, I can keep my grandkids - all of them :)

I would find some type of business to get into. More than likely it would be real estate. I would want to keep the money flowing ya know.

I would also put up money for my kids to go to college. I want them to have the best shot available to better their own lives.

I would help out my family. I know many of them could really use the help and I would want to be able to be there for them.

Oh and yes I would see a new car in my future and a nice vacation.http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif

Great question!!!!!

Here it is in order of importance: http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif
1. Quit my job - Call in RICH!!!
2. Buy my dream house, a house for parents and in laws (each, http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif)
3. Set up an account so my brother would always be taken care of - he had Aspergers syndrome.
4. Distribute monetary gifts to family members.
5. Set up the businesses I've been dreaming about! (I'd be bored to tears with absolutely nothing to do!)
6. Take a 3 month long vacation!!!!!! And travel - everywhere!
7. Set up an account so I can live off the interest.

Now if I can just remember to PLAY the lottery!!! http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley17.gif

Well I'd have to start playing the lotto first...

But my dreams for when I'm making multi-multi-6-figures:

1) Traveling as much as possible - at least 3 trips a year
2) Vacationhomes (probably flats)in London and Paris and country home in rural England
3) A new (old) Victorian home that I can renovate
4) I already have my favorite car - so that's covered! (check!)
5)Enjoy more leisure time pursuing my hobbies and interests
6) Donate more $$ to charities - perhaps eventually setting up a foundation

Probably more but those are the basics.

If I won the lottery I would give an equal portion to my immediate family and give some to certain friends that could use it. Iwould not move or buy a new house, I would just pay off my current house then do all the projects we've been wanting to do but haven't because of money. I would create trust funds for my children and retirement funds for myself and husband that we couldn't touch until later (just in case we go spending crazy, not likely though). And I would give some money to my local religious organization. Of course I'd do some major shopping! And finally I'd give some money to charities that deal with helping women and children that need help in Africa.

Hello, all:

Well, I don't buy lotto tickets, so my hopes fade right here...

...but if I DID perchance win the lottery http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif50% would first go to my church and other selected Christian charities, THEN my dreams would run wild!

First, I would pay all my bills.

Second, spouse and I would build our dream home.

Third, allow our three kids to build THEIR dream homes! http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif

Fourth, purchase vacation property in Arizona, USA. (We live in Northern Alberta, Canada)

Fifth, get back to my home business and catch up on all my neglected duties! (Sorry, but I love Internet Marketing, especially the writing aspect of it, so all my dreams HAVE to include by home business.)

If I won the lotto the first thing I would do is purchase some condos in various places. Small ones that would be easy to care for but so I'd always have a "home" in my favorite places. One here in Madison, WI, one in FL (probably in Celebration...such a cool town and only an hour and a half from family) one in Washingon (maybe Widbey Island) and then I'd want to purchase some property in Cornwall England, in a little tiny town called Trebarwith Strand if anything were available there!

Next I would buy a new wardrobe just for fun! My daughter is too young to care about anything material but I am sure I'd buy her some cute clothes too.

I'd always fly first class on my travels and get 2 seats even though she can sit on my lap for now.

Lastly I'd want to start a non-profit organization. I would hire super outgoing sales type people to go around to businesses advocating why it's important to allow parents more time with kids. I would want them to work with businesses for free to get them to implement work at home/telecommuting, onsite daycares, bringing babies to work,etc...

And I think I would go back to my artwork if I had time and travel around the world to various art classes and retreats.

I play a couple of Mega Millions tickets every now and then. I don't know why, (well, maybe I do) because I'm the one who doesn't even come close! ZERO or maybe 1 number - never the bonus ball...

First thing I would do is find the best tax/attorney/accountant I could and figure out a strategy to minimize the tax burden. I would do this even before I accepted the money!

Then I would relieve my mom from all of her debt, donate to my church and credible children's charities.

If I won the lottery, the first thing I would HAVE to do is be a little non-noble (is that a word?) and rub it in the faces of everyone who said it can't be done...

NO just dreaming. Those folks are the ones I would probably help because those are the ones that never really have anything because they do not know how to dream.

Dreams are the reasons we do the things we do to help others, our families and ourselves.

So, 1/2 for all the good charities I can think of and some of my family and a few fairly deserving friends and business associates, a BUNCH to spruce uyp my (new) place and then savings for the grandkids and the wife.

I would definitely quitmy job first. I mean, that's the reason I started a business in the first place. Then, I would buy a new house. I would probably also buy one for my mother. Then I would decide exactly how much to give to each of my family members. I would give each of them a lump sum and advise them not to ask for any more. I would fund my business to make sure that I would have wealth to pass on to my children. I believe that's about it.

If I won the lottery the first thing I would do is take my family out for the biggest ice cream sundaes they ever had!
Then I would sit on the money for about a month and let it sink in.

First I would give 10% to my church I grew up in and then I would pay off my Moms debt and then move her to wherever she wanted and write her a check and retire her. Then I would pay off my debt and then seek an awesome attorney to gain custody of my two oldest boys.
Open trusts for all three children and then a college fund. Buy a wonderful home in the beautiful northwest and retire my hubby. Invest everything that is leftover and continue to grow my business stress free. I could then wake up think What can I do to help someone else today? Instead of how am I going to pay *insert any bills here* today?

Travel the world, bur Classic cars, motorcycles, just a couple and just relax and do what I want. Awsome...Can't waite! http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley17.gif

I would take a family vacation of a lifetime....maybe around the world. Invest some for my kids. Give equal amounts to family members. Invest some of it (my husband is a big saver). I would also give some to my church and look for other charities to give to since I think that is a very important principle to have in your life! Oh, one can only dream!!! smileys/smiley1.gif

I already have a wish list of things I want and there's no doubt a lottery win will get these things quicker....

Have already designed my ideal house and garden, would help out family both the wifes and mine, get a decent tv and a lap top, take time out to learn French and publish a book(love writing). Work from home.

My wife Angela, does not fly to good so exotic or maybe even erotic holidays are out.

Lastly I'd love to set up a trust fund whereby I/we could make annonymous donations to good causes and plights as featured in local and national press.

I guess that as we get older our needs, wants and desires change but everything begins with a dream.....

It sure would be nice to not have the mortgage payment. More time with my family would be nice too. Do you ever think about how life would be if money was never an issue. I do enjoy working from home though.

I would pay off my parent's house and give them lots of money although it would barely put a dent in all they have done for me. I would fix my car and my boyfriends car just the way we want them. I would have more money to do what I love - make diaper cakes! I wouldn't need to make them anymore but I would still want to lol. And of course my kids would be even more spoiled then they already are. And I would invest a bunch of it into a high interest savings account.

Hi,
I've just joined & what a great topic to talk about!

Depends how much the lottery was!
If it was 1million dollars I would do a whole lot of different things than if it was $100,000 or 10 million dollars!
So, while I'm dreaming, I'm thinking it would be a miracle anyway as I don't buy tickets...smileys/smiley19.gif

If I won the lottery, I would pay my bills off, and continue with my education. After that was done, I would help out my daughter and her family, and then my sister, and her family. I will give to the Church, and find a few charities to give too.

I will be glad my bills are paid. I will probably by a condo, and take a trip to New York and Las Vegas for a week.

My real goal is to give to those who are in need.

All depends on how much you win. If under 3 millions you just set yourself a retirement fund and make gifts to friends and family. Anything over that you can create trust funds and apply the revenues to charity, research or what ever pleases your ego. But most important is to feel good about what ever you do and to insure you do feel that way you need to really take the time to evaluate every aspects of your decision.

There is and old book you may like to read about being rich. although it was written in 1910 it is still very contemporary. It's "The secret of getting rich" by Mr Wallace D. Wattles. You can read it online or download it for free ; http://icreatewisdom.com/NewScienceRich.pdf. I read it every time I need to feel better about being rich.

Have a nice day!

Lottery is a game of chance. It is so difficult to get the chance out of the million participants. However, if I be given a chance, I will share to charity and put up a foundation for the education of poor but deserving children. There are poor children who wanted to have quality education but quality needs money. Hoping that if someone among you wins in a lottery, please share to the charity too. Good Luck to all of you who are joining the lottery. I have tried many times but it seems I am not lucky.

Carl here:

I like your answer. I'd definitely do a lot of travelling. I'd also give 50% of my winnings to Charities that encourage personal growth for people. We've become too much a society of takers, instead of supporters. Helping individuals live a fuller richer life is what we all can do.

I'd do exactly what I'm doing, just somewhere else. Would love to move overseas, somewhere in Europe. It would be nice to have the freedom to travel extensively without worrying about money.

Would pay off my parents' house and build them a little place on my Italian property (or wherever we are) so they can come and stay as much as they want.

Definitely would need to find the husband a job or great hobby as having him around 24/7 would probably drive me crazy. How many motorcycle races and American Chopper episodes can one guy watch?? smileys/smiley36.gif

Oh! Nice dream! And Europe, to boot! :-)

My dreams - lottery-related, anyway - also involve Europe but not to live there. Maybe buy a second home or vacation property, in Sevilla (Seville), Spain, but I'm much too American to just pull up stakes and leave.

On a more realistic vein, I'd like to maybe talk to a financial adviser who could help me with the whole taxes-and-investment thing. Considering the way things are right now, I'd want to be extremely careful about where my lottery winnings went.

I'd probably splurge on a few things for hubby, kiddo, and me, and I'd also go back to university and finish getting my degree in English & Literature. Maybe this sounds silly, but I STILL want to write the Great American novel.

I like the idea of finding a good finacial advisor. However thats a problem in itself. Too many "advisors" work on what's best for them & not you. Stocks are way too risky now. For my money the safest place would be US Treasuries @ 6 - 12 mo's. Lower interest but principal is safer.

I've been to Europe & it's quite romantic. But unless you speak the language fluently, it can be a problem. Also US citizens are not very popular there. Seville is picturesque. My favorite way to travel is on a Cruise. That way you take your hotel with you.

wonderwoman99
10-08-2008, 10:38 AM
Jen's dream of moving to Europe permanently would work out for her and her family if they were already fluent in a European language or picked up languages "presto," because otherwise the whole culture shock thing and language learning process would be a big hurdle.

Also, Europe right now is not exactly immune to financial instability. Our credit problems affect their economic systems as well, so maybe right now this is not the time to move across the pond.

My friend's mom won the lottery a few years ago, and several family members popped up out of nowhere "demanding" money from her. She was too wise for them to deal with, and they never spoke to her again. Her own children accused her of beinggreedy until a friend of the family reminded them that "she" was the one who bought the ticket and she was not obligated to give anyone anything because that was her money. Anyway, everyone understood and the mom was very generous to her own kids and continued being the same person.

If I win I would find out how to secure my money and what I needed to do in order for my husband and me to live off the interest. Other than that, I probably would be "santa claus" only to family and friends that were always there for me.I have practically everything I need in my life so I would look into helping a few special caseswho are extremely less forturnate in life. Best luck to all you!

I would also pay off my parents house, and all of their bills... I'd buy my sister a house and pay off her bills as well.

I would also buy myself a nice house on a lake. Dock and boat, with a small beach area right there at the end of my large back yard!

With the rest of it, I would contact a financial advisor to educate me on good safe investments.

I would still continue to build my home based business even though financially, I would no longer need the income... Money wouldn't remove my passion for helping others to to become successful and reach their goals. I would continue to build it, and donate my earnings to the charities above.

Hi Carl, I'm happy and very successful with the 2 home based businesses that I currently run. While I appreciate the offer, I have no interest in adding anything additional, but thank you for thinking of me. http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif

Regarding the statistic that you shared. I have heard that before, and it's pretty sad. I would definitely NOT be one of those people if I won the lottery.I'd be in the 15% for sure! I would take my winnings in "Annuity", and would receive the payments over 20 years. You get twice as much that way! I can't think of any safe investment that would DOUBLE your money, so I'd definitely go the "annuity" route for payout. http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif

That's for sure Carl, Thanks for that... (PS I know the Purple cowboys too...give me a buzz too please!)
If the figure you are mentioning is the % of people who end up broke after winning big money on a lottery, in Australia it's more like 92% in 2 yrs!
I think if it was over 1million dollars, my outcome would be entirely different to 10 mil!

I like what Kristine says though, about receiving it as an annuity.

It probably should be made a law!

There is one firm that does do that. Your winnings are paid every month as $5,000 I think for 20 years. Imagine how much your life would be enhanced with a million dollars paid that way.
The confidence you'd have to tackle anything, knowing you are underpinned by a certain amt. coming in that you can commit to!

Money may not make one happier, but the rich certainly endure their unhappiness in more comfort!
Most people are very good hearted & desire naturally to give, but the poor find it extremely difficult to give to their favorite charities, so I believe it behooves us all to raise our standards, aim higher, smileys/smiley10.gif become financially astute & help as many people then as possible.

I feel it's a social responsibility to do so, especially to-day with all the education available.

I would pay off my debt, give some to each of my children, take all my family on a Hawaiian cruise, set a big chunk aside as an investment and then donate 10% or more to charities such as water wells in poor countries, Food for the Poor, Prison Book Project, World Vision etc.

About 3 years ago I sold a property in Florida and did the donating to these charities on a smaller scale (like $5000 instead of $100,000) . It happened to be this time of year and it was one of the most wonderful Christmas experiences I've ever had. Giving is much better than receiving. It is nice not to have to "worry" about money though.

Of course I want the dream home, 1 or 2 cars, home library/office, indoor full court basketball, exercise room, entertainment you know all of that and more. Most of all I want to be able to pay bills yearly not to worry about having to take time each month to do this task. thanks

Pay off debt, by a home, and a car. A big, comfy couch, and a new bed would also be great.
I'd renovate the kitchen in our new home, and then load it up with high-quality appliances, pots and pans, and other cooking gizmos. I'd also buy a lot of books, and some clothes. And eventually go back to school.

I'd give to charity, of course. And help family members with their debt, too. Save some. Invest some (but maybe not right away...). And DH, DD, and I would go on a drive across the country, stopping everywhere that looks exciting or interesting.

Edited to add: I love Michelle's idea of yearly bill paying. How cool. Might also set up a windmill or two on my property, let the electric company pay me for a change.. smileys/smiley2.gif

Great & noble ideas all...but let's be realistic here for a moment!
Has anyone costed their ideals yet?
I was at a seminar recently & the leader had us all cost out EXACTLY how much we would give & how, if we won the lottery!
Really take the time & do this exercise with 1 million, 10million & 20million dollars.
It's a bit of an eye opener & will really shock you, that you won't achieve 10% of what these lofty ideals aspire to.
We were shocked. It took a solid 3-4 hrs & a lot of talk. Checking accom for round country trips, new homes etc.
Then, would it be better to invest it all & collect interest & live & give off that & so on.
A lot of food for thought.
Most people ended up by getting rid of it all, as that type of mentality is the reason why they don't have any money now.
Very interesting challenge.
Happy New Year to all.

This is a question that plagues my mind every day. When I do the lottery I always have a feeling I might win. I guess the first thing I would do if I won the lottery would be to buy another ticket for the next one haha. I know I would give a lot to charity as there are so many worthy causes to give to nowadays, but I think I would get myself a few things. I think redecorating the house would be nice. I guess we will have to wait and see if any of our dreams come true!!

If I were to win the lottery I would divide my winnings into three sections: one quarter I would share amongst my family and single moms, another quarter I would use to purchase my dream house that I've already visited on Manitoulin Island. It's a very old house that I believe a doctor lived in. The house has huge bedrooms many of them with real wood burning fireplaces, what was intended for the dining room I would instead use as my own ballroom since it's large enough and I love to dance. There's a large yard with mature trees and the house is on a hill overlooking a bay. It's absolutely perfect.
Oh and the remaining two quarters of money I would be investing in business endeavors.

If it is legal:

I would not pay off my debt first, it would mean lose in capital.
Definately invest in it (education is always promising) and invest in sure returns like Pay Per Click Marketing (part of Internet Marketing- I believe in this because I've got my 1st sale). Invest more, get returns. Pay off debts, help the needy all across the world slowly, region by region, not just chuck the money to them but, more for education so they themselves can build and generate bucks, build houses.

Only after that first region, I would want to take a break to nearest destinations first follow by another region to help and then, another break, by this time, i've hired a team of financial planner to manage my money, and just chill till death succumb me.

Take care everyone.

I like this question. What would I do with a million dollors? Or rather, what am I gonna do WHEN I make a million dollors. It's been a dream of mine to travel everywhereIpossilbly could on my motorcycle. You know sleeping under the stars and stuffhttp://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif

Funny you should ask because I have been thinking about this for the last couple of months. I think I am about to win the BIG one! smileys/smiley36.gif

I would pay off my relative's house notes and for the select children in the family I would set up trust funds for their schooling.

I would help elderly people by spending time with them since I would no longer have a full-time job. And last, I would have the business of my dreams! I'd do some shopping and traveling too.

If I won the lottery this week of 1 million dollars only, I'd
Have 10% for fun...buy a caravan & tour, go hot air ballooning, live on a houseboat for a few months, dance in Vienna on NYEve at the Schonnbrun Palace, cruise Antarctica, see a thatched cottage in England ....mmmnnn ... get my reindeer drivers licence, sleep in the Ice Palace in Finland...
Invest 50% for growth, Find good investments to double every year.
10% for giving to causes, or creating my own good works centre to help people learn the internet & make their own money etc
30% to live on; Invest it to create a business that creates income to live on, buy & sell stuff to make living money, etc.
Yep, I'd do that this week!

Depends on how much. First I would help my daughter through college, and
save enough back to start my sons off as well. Definately would pay off my house and tithe to my favorite church.

If I won the lottery I would

1. Tithe 10%to my church
2. Save 10%
3. Invest 10% into my business (yes, I would still keep my business!)
4. Pay off ALL my bills
5. Buy a house
6. Buy a 2010 Lexus RX350 light green
7. Put 20% away for each of my girls (I have 2 of them)
8. Invest a portion in stocks and bonds (assuming the stock market is ok again)

9. Buy some investment property.

It would depend how much I won. If it were quite a bit then I would invest some, take 4 million and put them in high yield CD's. One for my son, 2 for subsequent children, and 1 for retirement. I'd buy my dream house, buy new cars, I'd finish my degree and start teaching because I want to make a difference. My husband could stop working and concentrate on his masters. I would probably get my masters, and then I would take a couple of months and travel Europe the right way. I would love to spend a few days in each of the major cities. I would also love to go to Thailand, China, Japan, Australia, and the Caribbean.

Good choice Courtnie!
Australia is as big as USA but only has about 8% of the population!
It's pretty sparce in a lot of places, but even that is beautiful.
The Nullarbour Plains...takes 3 days & nights to drive across, is spectacular at night!
As the sun sets, the sky goes peachy pink all 360degrees around, then that beautiful blue appears, then the quietness descends...the stars then begin appearing with a clarity that is indescribable...then it gets freezing cold if you aren't prepared.
Yes, your few thousand dollars on that trip will be well spent & you will feel it's worth a million dollars!

Hi: You listed Spend, save, charity, cars, houses, college, business.

Well, I will spend. I will be using part of the money to buy the things that I need but had been holding on. Cars, houses - no not now. I need to look at other things first. College - I will be using part of my money on that. Then some will also go for business. Not going to start a new one but add more new things.

My goal with my business is to earn enough to move back to CA to be with my children. So, that would be #1.

After that, I have family members who are really struggling. I'd love to be able to help them out.

I love traveling, so I know that would be on my list.

Because I'm not impressed by big fancy houses or cars, I'd have a lot left over. I'd love to be able to help favorite charities without blinking an eye.

I would have to say that I would have to save some, spend some, give some to charity. Forget the cars they go down in value way to fast, a house would be nice but I haven't really decided where I want to settle down an live. I think the rest would be put into some investments that would allow me some time freedom away from the 9 to 5 :).

First I would pay off my student debt, mortgage and car payments.

I would give 5-10% to charities that I am involved in, and set up college funds for my children.

I would help my parents retire comfortably, and purchase a cottage up north away from the city.

Next I would go on a trip, and as I lay in the sun relaxing with my husband, I could think about where else I could better my life and the lives of those around me with my good fortune.

In these times when so many people are stressed financially, it seems we spend a lot of time thinking about what we would do with a Lottery Win. Of course we would tithe first so that the Ministries we support would be blessed. And, our family has a huge burden to help children all over the world and we would love to start a Children's Aid Foundation with that kind of money. Of course, we would love to pay off all our debt (what a wonderful feeling that would be), buy our dream house and maybe a new car.

I would become a real esate investor and would build a non-profit organization to help single parents (or something of the likes). I've noticed that so many single parents work so hard and have little access to support or any kind of assistance. I find that sad. If they have it in them to succeed (go to college, take on a career, etc.) they should have more access to stuff to help them out.

I would probably even start a scholarship fund for kids that are at their top of their class and wish to go to medical school, but cannot afford it. I know several. It's so sad they worked so hard their whole life but cannot realistically afford medical school.

If we won the lottery we'd have to give up a lot. Like being behind on bills, crappy old furniture... ;)

We would get a new car and maybe a pickup truck to make shopping easier. I would definitely want to set up a scholarship in my mom''s name. And we would travel.

Beyond that, we're so used to doing things week to week & day by day I'm not sure what we would do with the freedom to choose what we do when.

I've thought about that a lot of times and here's what I'm going to do:
1) 10% for tithing
2) 20% for savings
3) 20% passive long term investment
4) depending on the total winnings, I'll allot a significant amount of that for my kids' education
5) give some to my parents

Whatever is left, half of it goes to charity and the other half to invest in a business that will yield a good monthly income.

simplewahm
09-02-2011, 06:07 PM
15 - 20 % would go to a church

half would go to charities

some would go to family and friends

I would build more food pantries and homeless shelters that educated people

Then i would get a nicer house (not a mansion or anything huge), new furniture, health insurance, a nicer car and pay off all our bills.

Put some in savings to collect interest and set up accounts for my children.

I might also open a kids community center and a Lab dog rescue center with a dog park.

LOL yup it's nice to dream!!!

Some great tips here - if you win the lottery:

Put off claiming the prize while lining up the financial professionals needed to help you manage the windfall. You just wanted to be able to prepare for it.
Get your team together. At a minimum, you'll need an accountant, a lawyer and a financial planner. Don't expect much help from the lottery itself, because it can't risk the legal liability of offering advice.
Get an unlisted phone number as soon as you can. People from around the globe are going to try to reach out and touch you for loans, gifts, charitable contributions and funding for their great business ideas.
Get advice from the right people. You may not be able to rely on friends and family for advice, unless your nearest and dearest happen to be multimillionaires with advisers skilled in managing big sums.

If I won the lottery right now, I would pay off any debts to people and companies I owed. I would then give money to all those people who helped shape & help my life. I would give money to those I knew from my past that were struggling like I am and then I would buy myself a home in the state of my choice. When I got there I would buy this gorgeous furniture I saw on Fabulous and Baroque (Baroque era styled furniture). I would buy a decent small car. I would buy any necessities I have been living without in my life. Maybe even a chemical peel for those unnecessary wrinkles I might have. Lastly, I would donate and tithe money to a church I would attend and their charities. Anything left I would invest in some sort of savings plan to prevent myself from ever being poor again.

First of all it depends on the amount of money that one can win in the lottery. If the amount won goes in millions then you have lot to spent. For a person the home comes first then comes car. The are various types and varieties of cars that are available in the market in various price range depending on the style, quality, features and the brand name.
