I have a lady that has contacted me and wants me to put my candles in her vendor store. She is selling shelf space. It would cost me 140.00/mnth to have a spot. The store is right downtown in Calgary Alberta. There is going to be a coffee shop in there as well. There are different vendors in there and she said she can offer me some exclusivity. There may be other candles in there but they won't be like ours. So what I want to know is if this is something you would do? What do you all think??

I have to make a decision by tonight.

Hi Becky,

I think it may be a good opportunity. I would try it out for a month and see how it goes! The only thing that would honestly make me hesitate is the monthly fee.

Hope this helps!

That's my concern. I don't want to pay a monthly fee and then be losing money.

I would ask her for a trial month at half price to see what kind of volume you get. Some people will do this or even a half month. For that kind of fee I would want my candles to be the only candles.

I did this at a store in Danville, CA ~ however it was my lavender products. They charged $60/mo + 20% of the sales off the top and cut me a check for the rest on the 5th of each month.

I did it over the holiday months and did quite well! $140 is a bit steep unless she is doing it by the size of the space. The shop I was in had spots from $60-$300 depending on location and how big the spot was.

Maybe see if she has smaller spots?

Hmmmm - was thinking- you only have to sell 8 jars or so to cover the price - and if you put out business cards and brochures with scent chips it could be a really good deal come to think of it...

You could put out certain scents each month corresponding with the month - and have a sign up to contact you for other scents or something??

That could be really good - it actually inspired me to look for a shop like that here in Nevada!

I'm just wondering what type of store this is. I've not heard of this before and don't know if y'all aremeaning a gift/card store like Hallmark or Carlton's, or if it'sa specialty store for folks to rent space and sell their goods.

It's definately a great idea though and gives me some food for thought in the future.
