Question Regarding Pay Rates
I don't want to get into a great debate. I also want to respect your privacy and all but... What do you typically get paid per word? I'm stunned to see so many people offering less than 1c USD per word lately. Personally, I cannot and will not work for that. I'm just wondering if things have gotten so bad in the freelance writing part of the web that this is now the going rate or if I'm just looking in the wrong place. I was forced to take some time off (worked as a "minister" to the homeless last year) but really have been looking for non phone work and if this is what writing has become I may need to think about other options. As a long time member here I know you all offer invaluable advice so I thought I'd ask here first. Thank you.

Sounds like you're looking in the wrong places. Target clients with 500+ employees instead.

There will always be cheap clients, but that's not the norm.

I think you're looking in the wrong places. I have 4 or 5 clients right now and most pay around $0.10 per word. Sometimes I get closer to $0.20 and other times $.05 or $.06, but it's usually about $0.10. I don't think I'd work for less than $0.05 per word or so right now.
