Hi everyone,
Has anyone heard or written for the James Innes Group. They seem to be a British CV writing company that hires people to write cover letters and resumes for people. They're hiring writers, but there isn't really much info on them out there so I hoping someone here has heard of it. Thanks! |

I found James Innes in January of this year. I was a stay at home looking for a way to supplement our income and keep my brain sharp. I applied and very quickly was added to their roster of writers. First you have to sign a contract committing to binding arbitration and to not create a similar company or work for one that takes clients away from James Innes for a year. Once you agree to that you are off and running. There was little to no direction. I was sent a series of screenshots of their system with no explanation of what any of them meant. But I'm smart so figured it out, occasionally emailing with a question.
The Pros: 1- It's easy to get resumes to work on. There are tons and there are constantly more coming in. 2- There are a wide variety of orders to choose from. Some people want a single cover letter, multiple cover letters, a LinkedIn Profile, a resume, or any combination of all of the above. 3- Their service department is very responsive. If you have a problem and need help they answer very quickly The Cons (and there are several) 1- You don't get paid nearly enough for what you're doing. They post the rates for each order in GBP. A single cover letter earns you 1.50 GBP which translates to $2.16. A resume can earn you 12.60 GBP which translates to $18.17. But these people have paid $15 for a letter and up to $99.99 for a resume. Some of them message you constantly and have you do draft after draft. It gets to a point where the work you're putting in doesn't earn you very much for your time. 2- It takes forever to get paid. January was my first full month. At the end of January they sent out a list of my completed orders (keep your own records just in case) and I assumed payment would be forth coming. by February 5th I hadn't been paid. When I inquired I found out you get paid at the end of the following month. So February 29th came and went. No payment. On March 5th I inquired again and was told that they have until the 15th to submit payment but this is highly unusual. On March 16th I inquired again and got a ton of apologies and immediate payment and an assurance that this was not norm. It is April 13th and I still have not been paid for February. 3- They can be pretty demanding. When you sign up you agree to complete 20 orders each month. That's really not hard, especially if you sprinkle in some cover letters only with the more complicated orders. However there are daily (sometimes hourly) emails that come out asking writers to take more orders. If you don't respond to these emails, they email you individually. I found this annoying because I budget my time very wisely and take on a little more than I can handle at all times. I don't need the added pressure of them bugging me to further over-extend myself (particularly when they take 6 weeks to pay and have yet to pay me without me bugging them). After a rather aggravating situation with them, I ended my experience with them toward the end of March. Hopefully they will pay me for the work I've done. Hope this answers your question. |

It is now May 23rd and I still haven't received payment for the work I did in March. No one can tell me anything and I'm beyond frustrated.

Hi all. Same situation here. Did you get your payments by now?

I also signed up in January and have still (mid-July) not been paid. I suspect they have absolutely no intention of ever paying anyone. I suspect they keep recruiting new people on the promise they'll be paid, and string them along with promises of payment until those people get fed up and give it up as a waste of time. At that point they just recruit more mugs and the cycle begins all over again.
DO NOT GO NEAR THESE PEOPLE WITH A BARGE POLE! ![]() ![]() |
