Default Media relations & content writer?

Does anyone else do a combination of content writing, press release writing, and media relations? I'm somewhat new to the media relations part, and can't figure out where a better place to post this on the forums might be.

My question to anyone who also does media relations, how do you handle rejection when you submit a press release to a media outlet? Do you just let it go, or try to respond to the media contact to glean what other types of articles/news they might be interested in?

Let it go if the gatekeeper doesn't want it, but it can't hurt to ask about what kind of content they'd like to get.

For me with my writers they do a range of things and I have two writers that do a mixture of:

product descriptions for amazon products
blogging
press releases
social media graphics text
infographics text
social media updates
you tube videos text
seo articles
news articles

And lots more too. It depends what is needed and most people can be trained up on it and by having a variety of clients is a great way to get experience in the different sectors.
