Fiction. I hope by next year I can eliminate articles altogether.

Fiction by a mile. Articles have strictly been a financial necessity.

I'd love to write fiction if I had the stories knocking about my head ... but I don't. And it's far too speculative for my tastes. So I stick to the sure thing.

I really prefer writing non-fiction. Writing fiction stresses me out; you have to make sure to tie all of the loose ends together and for some reason, I feel like I can't do that well.

I have notebooks, USB drives, and legal pads filled with stories from over the years, but I really prefer non-fiction. It's funny because I started a book a few years ago that I let a few friends read, got good feedback, and then just ran out of steam. Some of my friends still ask what happened to it and if I ever wrote any more. Even though I always thought I would write fiction, it's just too dang hard for me! I can sit down and write 5,000 to 10,000 words, but then I just run out of ideas/steam and stop. It's a lot easier to sit down and write a few short articles for me.

I'd love the change to writing fiction. I've been reading a lot about self-publishing and know quite a few writers making a living from fiction. However, I've written non-fiction articles, blog posts, and other content for so long that I don't know if I have what it takes to write fiction!

Fiction - I have finished a few stories, but you need to have a couple on the back burner and write fast if you want to be successful. I have a good friend making VERY good money self-publishing. Keys - an active platform, a professional editorial team (in other words, don't just get your friends to proof-read it for you), and a really really good publicist. My friend has gradually acquired all of those, and she is doing well financially.
A major publishing house just offered her a contract and she accepted it, but she will make considerably less money for this new book than she was making while self-publishing where she had more control over everything. |

I'll stick with web content. I like fiction, but I write better non-fiction with a creative flair.

I love all of the replies.
![]() I have mostly written non-fiction, but I hope to write more fiction as time goes on. ![]() |
