I think it depends on why you want the degree. If you want a degree just to have one, major in anything you want. If you want to get one just for fun in a subject you enjoy, go for the writing degree. If you want one to get more writing gigs or maybe a brick and mortar job one day, major in something that will still pay the bills if your writing career fails.

I agree with the poster(s) who said that writing about science pays well. I always did very well in my science classes, like 99% A+ grades for the semester, and I have been offered some nice science gigs over the year. And I don't even have a science degree - I could only imagine how much I'd make if I did.
