Default Don't give up on Craigslist!

I know that Craigslist is full of low paying jobs, but posting ads on CL can bring you work. Tonight the VP of marketing for the Miami branch of an international real estate brokerage firm contacted me about my writing services. I have worked with many real estate professionals, so my listing on CL was for a writer experienced in writing about real estate.

I don't live in Miami, but after submitting samples and going back and forth via e-mail, I was hired (for a long term position!) to write neighborhood descriptions for about $$0.11 per word. I know there are higher paying jobs out there, but I am incredibly happy about this one.

I am not trying to brag at all- I am hoping to inspire other writers on this board. I started freelance writing in May of 2011, making $0.01 per word at Textbroker. I moved through various content sites, with WiseGeek being my best gig. I started looking for private clients in 12/2011, and I have had some success, but nothing long-term that could pay my bills.

I know that there are so many great writers on this board, and I truly hope that everyone succeeds at their freelance writing goals.

Congratulations on the gig. Remember to still keep your feelers out there. One can never have too many clients. Craigslist is a goldmine when you work it right(as you can see lol).

Congrats! Yep, I've gotten a few $50 per article clients from CL, as well as several $15-20 per article jobs. You just have to look, and post ads.

Congrats! I agree, CL has a lot of junk you may have to weed through but every now and then, there's a gem in there. Good for you!

Congratulations and good luck on your new position!

I agree with Del, there is a lot of junk on CraigsList, but there are a lot of good gigs, too. After you learn how to tell the difference, you can even begin to wade through the listings pretty quickly. Some of my best gigs have come from CL.

I tried posting on Craigslist but they say my phone number cannot be verified for some reason. So I am definitely missing out because of this. Congrats on the new client!

Thank you ladies for all of the kind words! CL has been very good to me this week I have secured two projects over the past couple of months by applying for jobs advertised on CL, but 98% of my private client work has come from people who have responded to the ads that I have posted advertising my writing services. I highly recommend placing ads advertising yourself!
