Honestly, so far most of my private clients have been from Odesk. However, I do have to say that I have always been very strict about what I expect to make, to ensure that I get quality jobs. Also a lot of times, I can get those from Odesk to go off Odesk after awhile, which is what I prefer.

I totally love this post and I am glad that there are those that have been doing freelance writing for a long time to help those of us who are newer at it along.

I absolutely agree with this. All my best clients came from me approaching them directly, not answering a job advert. Even if a decent employer advertises a job they get swamped with applications.

I started going to conferences to network and landed some good private clients that way.

Freelancing jobs are the best and now everyone find their client online. There are so any online sites. I want to say something that when you find your client sign contract with him/her. It is secure while you are working with your client or with any businesses. You just need a WP website and you can sign document online with the client it doesn't matter where you live. Approveme is the best site for sign document.

I have found clients through job boards, but find the competition is so thick, you have to make applying and perfecting your cover letters and samples. I tend to have better luck just cold emailing people I want to work with. I've perfected my system and have a pretty great response rate. This is also how I land magazine writing work :-)

I did find long-term clients that paid well on UpWork and ProBlogger though.

Tx for posting this!

I find most of my clients on Upwork, and I'm also cold pitching too nowadays. Haven't perfected it yet but I'm getting there. Thanks for the great tips.
