Soon to be WAHD questions
Hi. I'm not new to working from home, but I'm going to soon be a WAHD. Does anyone have any general or random advice?
I've heard stories from WAHM's and they tend to live in yoga pants/leggings mostly. Depending on where you are, these are also acceptable outside the house if needed. But what would the option be for WAHD's? I'm trying to find something I could wear that would be acceptable inside and outside the house, but as comfortable as yoga pants/leggings for WAHM's. I'd rather not have to wear jeans all day. Any suggestions? |
Wear something comfortable. Maybe shorts or sweatpants? I think it's easier to be productive when you are comfortable. :)

My other half prefers his cammo jammies or plain old sweat pants. However, getting up and getting ready for the day is important and you don't want to let working from home prevent you from taking care of you especially now that you will be a WAHD. :) |

I would say that if you're feeling a bit nervous or anxious once your wife's maternity leave is over, having a m or mil around some at first would help. If you have that luxury, I would accept the help. But you never know, the time may come and you may already feel like a pro on your own! :) Best wishes!

Just wear whatever is comfortable for you. Most things that are acceptable for at home are also acceptable for running errands. If you are doing anything else other than errands you will want to change anyway...

It is up to you!
Wear what works best for you. I am not a fan of yoga pants but sweats are amazing. On days DH doesnt venture out of the house much, he wears shorts or pajama pants. It is all about what you feel comfy in!

I wear my pajama pants most of the day... then midday I put on my workout shorts and get in a 30-45 min workout. After I my workout I put on a pair of shorts or sweatpants. (I'll wear jeans if I'm leaving the house.)
However, the "experts" recommend getting dressed up as if you're were going to an actual office. Thinking is you'll feel more professional and be more productive. I believe there is some truth to this and sometimes follow this advice. Ultimately, do what is comfortable and works for you. If you're not leaving the house, and not going to be seen by anyone... PJs all say is fine if it doesn't make you feel like a slob. |
I'd definitely stick to whatever is comfortable for you. I rarely leave the house when I'm working but wear jogging bottoms in case I need to pop to the shop at lunch time.

I am looking to work more WAH jobs that I can log in and work and log out whenever I need too, instead of 9-5 phone jobs. |
I'm not a WAHD. My kids struck out on their own years ago, and have families now.
I am a mobile business because I enjoy traveling. Because of that, I dress as my mood determines, and in a manner that fits the activity. In my home office I tend to wear lounge pants in winter, and jogging shorts in summer. Although I do put on a shirt when I'm recording videos most of the time. When I run errands I normally wear jeans & shirt. Unless I have a formal meeting (which is extremely rare) I wear a suit. When I'm out in my motorhome I wear shorts & Tshirt, or shorts & no shirt usually. Basically what I recommend is to dress as the occasion dictates. And, as others said, go forth comfortably. |
There's no rule on what to wear so just wear anything you're comfortable wearing. A t-shirt and short will do. It is up to you. Wear pajamas when if you feel wearing it on normal days at home.

I usually wear what I would normally wear if I were to go to a store or drop my kids off at school. I dress comfortably but not sloppy, because I tend to feel less productive if I don't feel somewhat put together. All depends on what personally makes you feel comfortable and productive!

Why wear anything... in particular
This is an old thread. Not sure why the resurgence but what you can wear is a varied as the previous responses. So whoever is reading this, take note. Be yourself. I start many days out in a pair of gym shorts and a shirt after my normal morning grooming. I can run to the corner store, or other errands in that. If I need something a little dressier for a quick or pre-arranged meeting or other reasons it only takes 5 minutes to rerun a toothbrush and change clothes. I often change into jeans or slacks around mid-day whether I'm going out or not and with good reason. It sets a tone for me, and I'm still comfortable.
Lots of people will tell you wear what's comfortable but I recommend you take it one step further. The "I work from home in my jammies/boxers/yoga pants" line makes for an inviting picture but you need to remember one thing... whatever you're doing in your home based business still needs to bring positive results. WEAR WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL MOST PRODUCTIVE. I'm not shouting but I am stressing the point. Lots of people dressed for the workplace for many years, came home at the end of the day and slipped into something more leisurely. That mentality can carry over to your WAHD days. For some, the more leisurely and comfy the garb, the more lax one can be in tending to what needs to be done. |
You can get lounge pants. They're a step above pajamas, a step below sweat pants, and can be worn outside.
