HTML5 is HTML, it is just the one with the latest updates or lines of code that are now supported online. PHP, ASP and JAVA are also popular choices.

HTML/5 and CSS are really the basic building blocks you'll need in your developer's tooklit. PHP is more or less a necessity these days, too. I recommend some free online resources like Codecademy to get started, and I've found Lynda tutorials immensely useful if a bit dry. You can get a free trial, but it does cost to be a member after that.
I would really suggest using a WordPress site as an experiential playground at first. The ability to put what you're learning into practice and tweak things on a live test blog really sets the learning process into stone. Best of luck! |
