I appreciate anyone reading this and willing to offer advice.

I stopped transcribing (general) over a decade ago and want to get back into it. I've done research on here about current companies that may be hiring, but I'm a bit overwhelmed with all of the equipment/devices/methods used to transcribe that are currently out there.

What equipment is popular to use now?

Any recommendations for voice to text software? Is that a thing for transcription now?

Hi mommiesrule, most companies don't allow you to use voice to text software for transcription, as they want a human to type the work. And from what I understand a lot of the software doesn't capture the speech correctly and you end up having to do a lot of manual correction of it anyway. With that said, there is a free transcription software out there called Express Scribe. You can go here https://www.nch.com.au/scribe/index.html and download a free version of it onto your computer. You can use this software to upload the transcription audio into. And you can either type right into the software's text section. Or type the audio into a Microsoft Word document or Word Perfect program, if that is what the company requests. It would be a good idea to buy a foot pedal to operate the software with. I have owned my foot pedal for many years and it is a Start/Stop foot pedal. The company is Start/Stop and you can go here https://www.startstop.com/foot-pedals/ to purchase a foot pedal. It still seems to be the $70 price I paid for it almost 20 years ago. Hope this helps.
