Tigerfish Transcription anyone?
Has anyone ever heard of or worked for Tigerfish Transcription?

Yes. They are a legitimate company, although they pay very little. But they are a good place to learn the ropes of transcription, from what I hear, as they accept newbies.

How much do they pay?

msuggitt 05-16-2012 12:11 PM

Yes, they've been around for over 20 years. They pay higher than QT, but a tad lower than other companies but they do hire people wanting to gain experience. That doesn't mean they hire anybody as they used to have pretty strict and rigid testing one had to pass. I believe they used to pay per line, maybe 1-2 cents less than other companies when the rate was 5-7 per line, someone will have to step in with today's rates as it's been awhile.

This company offers a good way to break into working at home and gain real experience. If I remember right, you;ll be expected to have your own eqpt and/or software not to test but soon after. I would have no problem suggesting to someone with some transcription experience who is trying to break into the work at home world.

I believe their pay is half a cent per word. This is generally reasonable for a newbie and will get you good experience. Their pay is significantly higher than companies like Quicktate and Scribie.

How hard is it to get hired at Tigerfish for anyone who has worked there and about how much can you expect to make a month?

Sadie1Lady1 05-20-2012 08:03 PM

That will vary upon how much time you are willing to put in and how much work they are willing to give you, how good you are, how fast you turn it around, how much editing or proofing it needs, etc.

You won't really know until you try it.

Good luck.

I'm basically just wondering if it is possible to make a career out of working at Tigerfish. I'm currently doing medical transcription training and I'm trying to get a job to gain experience. I've applied at Focus Forward, Tigerfish and Verbal Ink but I'm not sure if any will hire me because I have no experience.

Rake90, it is possible to make a career out of transcription. However with just one company, you probably won't be able to make the money you want.

There's a list of companies on Freelance Transcriptionist Road with notes as to who hires newbies, etc.

How does your resume look? Do you have any office or secretarial background? If so, that counts towards experience. If you currently have the skills to do this, then you can do it. You can gain some experience at SpeechInk through Mturk. You can check out Scribie and Quicktate (both low paying), as well as Appenscribe. And just keep applying and moving up the pay ladder until you get where you want to be.

Will you want to make a career at Tigerfish? Once you have more experience and can make more money, probably not.

Good luck.

Well, I was hoping to make at least $8 an hour at first.
