Help me...please....

I have my first project and I got it, from all places, the law firm where I work! I have to transcribe 3 a/h of a court hearing by tomorrow morning. These are .wav files. I can't get Express Scribe to play them; I keep getting "codec" errors. (Yes, I checked/unchecked the .wav setting). I've done a topic search here and read about JoanC's difficulties earlier this month with the very same issue, but there was no resolution posted. I have now purchased SmartWAVConverter Pro (on sale for $20 until Thursday!), but it says that it cannot convert the .wav files to mp3s or any other formats. Does anyone have ANY ideas? I am afraid that I will be forced to play the audio in FTR, which will involve playing a few seconds, pausing, typing, unpausing, etc. OMG, it will be a long long night if I have to do that.

What if you try TranscriptionBuddy?

Have you made sure that .wavs will actually play on any other player in your computer? If they won't play anywhere then it would be a codec problem and you would have to download an audio codecs pack (found by googling "audio codecs" or "audio codecs download" or any combination like that).

Hope you find a solution!!

I don't understand why you don't want to play it in FTR. How is the playback different from Express Scribe? Do you use a foot pedal? I find that the clarity in FTR is a lot better most of the time when I play my audio in FTR. Of course, I use a foot pedal -- I've never used hotkeys and would probably go nuts if I had to! I guess I am more confused than I thought, because I didn't know that FTR and the foot pedal were compatible. ?? I have now renamed the files to .wma extensions and they play in my windows media player. Sounds to me like maybe what I really need is for someone to help me use FTR?

Sure it is -- do you have a in-usb foot pedal? I don't think I ever had to configure the foot pedal in FTR - it just worked. The only thing is that my FF and REW pedals are reversed, but that isn't a problem at all. Have you tried to use the foot pedal with it?

I don't have a USB foot pedal with me tonight - just a regular port end. Do you suppose that is the problem? Maybe FTR doesn't recognize it unless it is USB?

Ok, I'm going to be working on this the "hard way." If anyone has suggestions, please PM me. Thanks.

You really should try Transcription Buddy if you haven't already. There is a free trial.

Oh, maybe that is the problem. I have never had anything but a USB foot pedal, so I don't know the compatibilities of the port end pedal. That really stinks that you have to do it the hard way! I can't believe Express Scribe won't play it. I wish I was able to help you

Ok, I downloaded T.Buddy. It says that the audio file is in an unsupported wave format. Do hot keys work with FTR?

Ok, I see that they do. Wow, I'm really getting whiney and pathetic. I've been working since 6am, and now this mess tonight. Whoever's working the late shift with me, send posts to keep me awake. Edited by: ToniD
