Writing type jobs are pretty flexible. Many are based on the project/article and you are given a deadline instead of specific hours to work.

Thanks Dana. I am wondering if anyone else has any ideas. What careers/jobs allow independent contractors or employees to create their own schedules?

Basically any job where you have a marketable skill that wouldn't be found in a company that has high turnover like a call center. So if you're able to make programs, build websites, or write you can basically set your own hours. Employee based jobs that let you set your own hours are usually programming based where you don't need to be in the office. If you're just starting out I'd try out writersdomain and others like it.

I would suggest looking in the "Advertise your business " section. With your own business you can choose your hours and your paycheck .

that said, other than starting your own company or (some) phone sales, in order to make over $15/hr I think you will really need specific 'in demand' skills so you'll have to give us more information on what other skills you bring to the table. Even search engine raters will only avg 13.50/hr (not as much as a good transcriptionist) best wishes let us know what you find |

The only thing about advertising in that area is that it really doesn't bring in much traffic, i'd suggest increasing backlinks, SEO, and using google adwords if you have an idea of what terms are being searched. but if they have the extra money, using the advertise your business section isn't a terrible idea, just not the best return on investment.

Well, it depends on the company. I see a difference between telecommuting and freelancing. I was a partial telecommute employee for a data company once. I worked FOR them and no one else. Sometimes I worked on site and sometimes I worked from home.
As a freelancer, I have many clients. I set my own schedule (for the most part). |

Awesome advice guys, thank you so much. One more question before I let this thread die, do call center jobs typically allow you to make your own hours?

IC call center jobs let you choose your own hours in advance. Once chosen though, you can't back out on a whim. Employee call center jobs, no way. With EMP you bid for your shift and then you have that shift until the next bid.
