If you're doing call center work, you need to get into tech support of some kind to break the 10 dollar an hour barrier. You'll have better control over your schedule if you go IC.

Thank you. I have been shopping around so to speak....

There are also a number of customer service related positions listed here too. Some may pay under $10 an hour to start, but there may be room to advance.

Convergys starts lower than 10.. but you can move up quickly! If you can get into a Sales position with Convergys (they have them).. it's excellent money!

I was thinking about doing outbound calling, I seen that you can make as much as 25.00 per hour with some companies. The downfall is I'm terrified of getting a commission only position...I'd rather have a flat rate per hour plus commission....

I work at home (telecommute) in my actual field and I think that's made the biggest difference. Do you have prior training in a face to face job? I'm wondering if you already have skills and might be selling yourself short?

Don't be scared of commission only jobs. Some of them pay very well and you can make good money !

Too true about not being afraid of commission jobs. I was real scared at first. I make my money per minute I am on the phone. My husband works for Apple through a vendor company and makes $12 an hr. I know if you work directly for Apple tech support you make $14 per hr as a tier 1 and a tier 2 tech support makes $18 per hour. Might apply to apple at home on the apple website if you can be trained for tech support.

Just as you find in traditional jobs - wah positions with higher skill levels and/or high demand will offer higher pay so I agree with the others, try getting into Sales or Tech positions vs CS - many of the various providers work with multiple companies each offering various positions.
Best wishes |
