Are USB headsets necessary for WAH Jobs?

Hi everyone,

I have a very good headset that has a built in microphone as well...but it's just the standard connection not usb. Most jobs require a usb headset. Anyone know why that is? I'm assuming sound quality. I don't see why the other headset wouldn't work. Unless I'm missing something. Anyone know.

My dilemma is I start a new job this week, but I don't intend to be there long (super horrible reviews). Therefore, I prefer not to spend money on a new headset. Plus my account is bordering on overdraft, so I'd definitely prefer to keep the money in my pocket.

I'm just wondering if I can get away with using my regular headset. My job will be answering inbound calls which will be transferred via VOIP. Grateful for any help you can give. Thanks!

USB headsets are required for jobs where you will be taking calls on VoiP phones because USB is digital while the 3.5mm jack headsets are analog. You can probably find an adaptor to turn your headset into USB digital.

Like elph said, you can get adapters really cheap on Amazon. A couple of dollars or less.
If the job wont accept that... I just picked up a USB headset on Amazon for $11 + prime shipping. It sounds fine and will work well enough for a short term gig.
