My daughters want me to order P90X. Before I do, I wanted to find out from those who've used this system and/or Chalean Extreme which one YOU think is the better system?

Thanks,
kim

Hi Kim!

In my opinion they are both equally good programs so it would really depend on what your goals are. ChaLEAN is geared more toward fat loss and toning where P90X is designed more for mass building and definition. That's not to say that you won't also lose weight/fat with P90X...just that ChaLEAN is specifically designed for weight loss. Also, ChaLEAN focuses a bit more on the lower body.

Hope that helps!

Coni

Hi Kim!

I hope none of the MDB coaches mind me adding my 2 cents here, but since I have both programs, I wanted to offer my opinion.

Coni is right - they are both excellent programs and I love them both and both will give you rockin' results if you stick with them and eat right.

IMO, someone who is not already in half decent shape shouldn't dive right into P90X. I had been lifting weights for 10 years prior to doing P90X and was in good shape, but it was extremely intense. I did experience really quick fat loss (according to bodyfat measurements) with it, but it is hardcore.

I like CE because the workouts aren't near as long as the P90X workouts and you can still get great results.

Which is better? I can't say either one is "better" because I think they're both awesome. It just depends on what YOU are looking for and what YOU will stick with.

Anyway, just the opinion of a huge MDB fan!

Oh, and hopefully FVMom will chime in here as well since she's tried both programs as well and she's having great success with CE. You also may want to check out FVM's blog.

Hey Jenn!

Kim I get asked this question a LOT so I hope you don't mind my pre- written canned response

Here it is:

I've done both programs and here's my opinion of the differences:

Time: P90X the shortest workout is 55 minutes, plus you do a 18 minute
ab routine after the weight workouts. So you need 60-90 minutes per day
to work out 6 days a week.

ChaLEAN Extreme the longest work out is 45 minutes followed by a 10
minute ab routine. With ChaLEAN you need 30-40 minutes per day to work
out 5 days a week.

Focus: P90X is more focused on men so there's a large focus on upper
body. You do a lot of push ups and pull ups. They do have a Lean
rotation that focuses less on upper body, more on cardio, but it's a
lot more mundane as you do many of the same workouts week after week.

ChaLEAN was created more with a woman in mind, so there's more of a
full body focus. P90X is full body too but there's only 1 day you work
the legs whereas with ChaLEAN it's 3. Also the female cast members are
more visually appealing and motivating.

Music: P90X is strictly rock and roll music. ChaLEAN is more pop/hip hop with a little rock here and there.

Intensity: P90X is designed for advanced exercisers. It is not for a
beginner. There are SOME modifications but really if you're not pretty
fit already it is very difficult to do.

ChaLEAN is designed for the beginner as well as the advanced exerciser.
The beginner would use lighter weights and follow the modifiers. The
advanced exercise would use heavier weights and compete with ChaLEAN
(at least I do)

Speed: P90X you are doing tradition moderate to fast paced lifting,
ChaLEAN is slow and controlled. IMO the slow and controlled movement
lets you get more out of the lift and leaves you less open to injuries.

Instructor: Both instructors rock and are very motivating. Tony uses
some profanity though and for me as a mom and a Christian that's a turn
off especially since my children like to work out with me. It's not like he's dropping F bombs or anything crude like that, just a few choice phrases I'd rather not have my 5 year old parrot child repeating.

Backround exercisers: In P90X there's usually 1 woman, in ChaLEAN one man. I prefer to watch female exercisers.

BOTH programs are super intense and will get you results. P90X though
you will lose body fat is really not a weight loss program but more
designed to help you achieve your ultimate fitness. ChaLEAN is designed
to cause weight and body fat loss and get you lean.

My personal preference is ChaLEAN. I have friends that prefer P90X.
It's all about your personality and what motivates you and what you can
stick to.

Coni
Nothing severe he just says bad a**, da** and he** a couple of times and my daughter would tend to repeat it He says "Jesus" but in his defense he does correct himself and say "I meant Jeepers" So not profanity in the sense of and R rating, but probably PG to PG 13. Just don't want to explain to my daughter's Kindergarten teacher why Kayla is saying everybody is bad a**

Well, I'm a customer turned coach. I have completed a round of P90X and started Chalean but didn't finish it. I agree that it is largely based on personality and how you like to workout.

I just wanted to let any women out there looking at P90X that it is also very effective for women too. I lost 35lbs doing the X. I was 198lbs when I started...so definitely not a "seasoned" exerciser. It will push you..no doubt. But, that is exactly what I needed.

You are bound to get amazing results no matter what program you choose, IMO. Good luck!

Thank you all for your advice. I think they would do Chalean the longest since it's more for girls.

Kass... I know EXACTLY what you mean by not wanting profanity. My youngest is 13 and it's hard enough to keep him from repeating what he hears on tv! (I'm so sick of "that's what she said" jokes... )

Just a warning...you guys may want to stay away from Tony's One on One then lol He has a little bit of colorful language in there as well. That's just Tony though, gotta love him
