Hello everyone, I'm so glad to have stumbled across these forums .. Just reading these threads alone has made me feel like I'm not the only fish out of water out there ;]
I signed up for Origami Owl probably a couple weeks ago. My mentor is great and has been super helpful but I still can't help but feel overwhelmed. I'm actually quite glad they will not be letting any more DIW's in until the middle of the month, gives me some time to figure out what the heck I am doing! Anyhow, I am on a tight budget so when I do order my kit I will be ordering the smaller of the two. My biggest question or concern is a matter of inventory. I know we live in a world where people are all about the "cash and carry" .. Well I'm concerned I won't do well if I don't have much inventory on hand. I am a stay at home mom living paycheck to paycheck from my lovely husbands job so it's not often I just have money to spare. I just purchased my locket and cannot wait to get it, my mentor also ordered me some books and blank business cards to get me started. I plan to shadow her this weekend at a party and finally meet her in person since she lives a couple hours away. I'm genuinely looking forward to learning as much as I can from her in that one night. I really just need some tips and maybe some reassurance [from someone other than my mentor because maybe I need to feed my ego and hear I CAN do it from more than one person haha] on how to get things going. I haven't booked any parties and I'm not really even sure how to go about doing so. I don't want to break any O2 rules in the process of waiting. I'm also very worried about the organization of all things business related. Any advice would help greatly. Thanks in advance! |

Welcome to the forum & congrats on choosing O2. I'm glad you think the wait list is a good thing. I'm a Team Leader & I would like the wait list to be 2 weeks forever. It really helps get you ready. Not everyone has sold for DS companies. First breath & second tell yourself you CAN & you WILL do this! Then realize you are not alone in the what the heck am I doing stage. We've all been there. Luckily you have a great mentor!! That's a huge plus for you! The small kit is what I bought. I'd never seen the product when I signed up, never sold anything before either. Did you know that alot of make & takers are now switching to orders only? They've figured out that people will order just as much and be just as happy if their order arrives in 7-10 business days as they are if they take it home. It's alot less stuff to carry around & it lessens the amount of work to be some. What I did to start is all the money I made I put right back into my business to buy more product. There's an option to have a certain percentage of your commission to be paid in hoot loot. I had it at 100% for awhile. Once you have the funds I'd get each of the birthstones and a couple letters. Those won't come in the kit. I advise diw's who are getting the small kit and purchasing a locket b4 their official to get the rose gold or the gold locket. Neither of those will be in the small kit. Of course I allow diw's to order their locket at our cost. You'll learn alot from the party you're going to. Listen to her mention the benefits of joining. How she talks about what they would get for hosting a party. She'll be asking them when they check out if they'd want more info about signing up or would they like to book a JB. As she figures the totals of the party she'll say how much the hostess earned for free & how much money she would have made that night if she was a designer. That is a very important part of the party. Getting the wheels turning about if they could do what she just did & make money. They'll call you that night or the next morning wanting info. You just need to stay positive, learn as much as you can, don't be afraid to ask questions & be over the too excited about sharing the product with everyone. If if a person half asks me about my locket they get the whole song & dance. You never know if someone else is listening. Wear your locket up high. I prefer long chains but people will notice my locket if its closer to my face. So that's where I wear it. We are all here to help out! Lean on us & ask anything! Susan <3 |

Thank you both so much for your replies. Susan you were very helpful on the whole what to order front. It's good to have an idea of what is good to have to show.
Can either of you give any tips on how you organize everything. One of my huge concerns is the whole tax portion of it. I've never done direct sales, I know nothing about write offs and keeping receipts and deductions and all that other important mumbo jumbo lol. I am honestly so excited to sell this, I can only hope that passion shows. I saw the locket from a friend hosting an online jewelry bar and I was honestly in love at first sight. Then I read the story and was even more blown away. I am looking forward to a great future with this company. |

I have an amazing excel sheet I can share with you that I use to keep track of my expenses. It covers your expenses, income, and mileage and then it breaks it down by category ![]() ![]() |

The absolute best business decision you can make for yourself is save a little money towards tax filing time & pay an account that is familiar with direct sales. Trust me it will make your life and your worries so much easier. Plus you'll be able to deduct off of the following years taxes.
I'm a retired CPA so I don't give any tax advice without knowing your particular situation. It should be no more than $200 for the filing. If nothing else save every receipt. People bring their whole years receipts in shoe boxes. It's fine to do it that way but it will cost you more to get them done. I use the spreadsheet Tricia is talking about & it is excellent! |

Another question, sorry ladies! I would like to work on my Facebook page, or at least set it up [without publishing obviously] But I can't figure out how to go about doing it. I seriously used to think I was really computer savvy but now I am definitely second guessing myself lol.

It's actually pretty easy to set up. Just go to anyone's FB page, and at the top right there is a create page button.
Click on that, and then it talks you through it. |
