I thought I would share this. This it not just referring to Jamberry Nails but all businesses. I've been approached a couple times from people who wanted to join Jamberry Nails but they were not local. Even though it doesn't matter where you live I told them that I can direct them to a local Consultant. But what shocked me was they said, "No. I want you!" So... That was a shock, lol. After much conversation I came to realize that people really join people-- not the company. I knew this all before but since joining Jamberry Nails it's just been more apparent to me. I'm a nerd so I do a lot of reading and pass it along to my team. Here's some good key points I found by Han Schoff (www.hanschoff.com-- no affiliation) on this very subject:
"They join because they like, respect, trust and/or believe the person they go into business with can help them move toward their goals and dreams. Otherwise, they wouldn’t sign up!" "This is a relationship business. So go out with an attitude to help people and to serve them and remember you are building a voluntary army. These are not your employees and you cannot threaten them or force them to work – so don’t go looking for employees. Look for other leaders or other people who you can bring the leader out of them. Be gracious, happy, and friendly in your recruiting and in general while building your home business and watch your numbers double and a whole new wave of momentum take off for you – and you may even enjoy it!" So overall, instead of the whole "join me! join me!" I see it more as "what can I do to help you". It's an unselfish act and you may lose a potential team member. But I feel it's not all about you, it's about what the person's needs are. Just my 2 cents. Thoughts? |

This is a great post and SO true! I'm not with Jamberry, either, but the words and philosophy ring true for all of us in direct sales.
I have been with my company for 2 years and my team has grown slowly over time. But, each one of them came because of the relationship I had with them outside of the business. I love my downline and we are truly friends. They may be spread out all over the country, but with technology it doesn't matter. We text throughout the day and talk on facebook or through e-mail. One of them even called me first (after she told her husband) to tell me she was pregnant! I'm sure we can all say, working in direct sales has taken us places we never thought we would go. I mean emotionally and spiritually, too. It helps us all to explore our weaknesses and become better people. It is SO much more than the products and sales. I wake up everyday ready to build relationships and help my team acheive their goals! Love it! Last edited by mommy2005; 01-25-2012 at 06:57 PM. |

Steph!! <3
I think sometimes people needed to be reminded of this from time to time. For anyone to be really successful in whatever business their doing, implementing this is crucial. |

Excellent post! I agree. Having someone that can communicate with you and take the time to help you is something that is needed. Too many times people will not take the time to answer someone's question or truly listen to them. They rather just spam their business to every question hoping they can get a recruit.
I must admit even though I was attracted to the product first, I actually like that my upline was very helpful and took numerous emails from me and always offer to help me whenever I needed it. |

Awesome post! I love it! People really do join with the people that they feel comfortable with. It makes a difference.

I'm really glad you posted this! I can say from personal experience - I joined a "local" Jamberry Nails team & have had NO help whatsoever. I'm very disappointed that I didn't take my time & search for a better fit upline. On the other hand, I've learned from that mistake & my downline is all over the country. I speak to each of them usually once a week, some more. Distance isn't a factor - it's all about support & having someone who wants you to succeed!

Sorry to hear that Emily. But I bet you learned a lot and support your team members even more. I know when I talk to people, that's one of their biggest fears-- their Sponsor leaving them or not offering the support that they "promised."
I even started telling prospects that they can contact my team members as "references" lol. I mean heck, I would! If I was really interested in a company and it came down to deciding who to join, I would want to make sure I'm confident in my decision. But you're right Emily, "local" is not always better. I always say talk to a couple Consultants and find one that you connect with. The first person who contacts you or you contact, may not be the best fit for you. Just my opinion. |
