Cool Question!
I was a vegetarian for about 5 years. I do eat egg whites, seafood, and some chicken breast every now and then..but most definitely NO red meat or pork! I read recently that pork and red meat don't even digest in your body...there are alot of health problems associated with too much animal protein ![]() My kids and hubby eat the same. Most days I do egg whites for breakfast, then tofu or a veggie burger for lunch, maybe legumes, dinner is usually seafood. I also don't eat any dairy, though my kids eat some cheese and yogurt ![]() Last edited by Jayme Huffines; 06-10-2011 at 08:30 AM. |

I'm a lacto-ovo vegetarian, but a vegan wannabee. I'm having a terrible time giving up eggs and cheese.

I believe in an overall balanced diet, but I do limit my red meat intake because of digestive issues. It is true that beef is very hard to digest and you should eat it in small quantities. It does, however, provide a good source of vitamins and minerals and is a complete protein. Children, especially, should not be deprived of red meat as they need it to grow healthy bodies. I feel that we need to focus on balance in our lives, including our diet.
It's hard to eat healthy in our world today as we are bombarded with all the processed foods; hormone issues with meats; sugar in literally everything (such as fructose and high fructose corn syrup); and availability and cost of organics. There's also the issue of genetically modified grains that's a concern, especially with corn and soy. We need to be wise in our food choices as we feed ourselves and our families with the obesity that is running rampant in America. I, personally, have chosen not to follow any altered type of diet such as being a vegetarian. You miss out on too much good nutrition. |

I was just reading this post and was thinking steak is pretty hard to chew so it must not be easy to digest. I was pescetarian for a good while and then one day I just started eating red meat again. I wish I didn't eat it. I wish I were stronger.
