Just venting. My power steering has been failing for the last several months. I've been ignoring it mostly. Had the fluid checked, but apparently that's not the problem. I can't afford to take it to a garage and rack up a $250 plus bill.

But it's getting really bad now, making more noise and now I can actually feel it failing at low speed. Ever drive a car with no power steering?

Anyway... waiting impatiently for word... and an estimate.I dropped it off this morning and haven't heard anything yet. Just as I was pulling into the lot, the check engine light came on. LOL! I think I know what that is, but it adds another $100 to the bill. I'm hoping for a miracle... like my client that owes me $1000 for last October actually paying me. Oddly, they paid November's invoice... but still not October... and accounting is evading requests for info by the team that I work for.

I think it's an end-of-year thing. Same thing happened last year with one of my invoices. It just disappeared for a while until after the new year.

Oh, so sorry to hear about your car troubles! Older cars can be such a pain sometimes. Hope the estimate ends up not being so much. (And here's to hoping you get paid the $1000 from that client!)

The news wasn't good.... BF took the car to a friend who he trusts not to make things up... but he ended up telling me I need a hose and a belt... ok no problem... and a catalytic converter???? I swear those things are a scam. He wanted over $800 to do it all.

I told him forget the converter. I will deal with that if and when I have to. It cut the cost by more than half, but I'm still in to $300 or so.

I'm not happy at all. This just adds to the stress of not getting paid... plus a trip my Sisters In Law dreamed up that I can't afford, but they insisted I go.. are even helping out by paying for MY kids! So how could I say no??? Now the kids are excited. I can't back out, but I don't know if I can come up with the money.

My heart just isn't in it.

Something good needs to happen fast. My PT boss I think feels bad... so he told me I can work from home as much as I want and just write up the hours.

On that note... he alluded that if our "project" I mentioned last week looks like it's going to work, he may "take me out of the office" to reduce the distraction of his main business.... letting me work from home so I can focus and not worry about answering phones.

But I can't expect a payoff from any of that for a few months.... not soon enough.

Oh hun, I feel for ya! Maybe this will make you feel better...our new (6 months) van is having issues, been in the garage several times and they can never find anything wrong! This last time, magically, they gave us a car to use..........um forgot to say we had to pay, it was a rental! Needless to say the van is not fixed AGAIN and we had to shell out $ for this rental at Christmas time! Hope all works out for you (and us)!

Oh man I really feel your pain! The first car I ever owned didn't have power steering. At first, we thought to check the fluid, but upon inspection, there wasn't even a place to put the fluid in! It was actually built without it!

It stinks, but you can tone your arms while driving!!

It will get better. Times like this you have to stop and not run down the list of bad stuff, but rather the blessings in your life.

You have a job, family, etc...

Sometimes I think we are tested to see how we can handle stressful situations. We had a BAD January 08--big water leak (in the walls), computer crashed, and sick kids all in 2 week span (Dr's bills and meds$). I was so down and out and was wondering "what's next" but we made it thru all that. Yeah, it set us back on some bills for awhile but we got straightened out. I figure at least we had jobs to be able to figure it out, KWIM?

It will get better!

Things will get better. This will pass, try to be positive throughout all of this. When you focus on the negative, you will get more negative. Take each thing as it happens and get through it one step at a time.

Thanks everyone. I should get the car back today. I really like the car. I can't expect perfection with it being.. not old, but driven hard. I put between 500-600 miles on it per week.

I'm still praying for that miracle so that I can stop stressing over money. I've had my share of them... like the free-ish lawyer who is helping me with my divorce. A blessing that dropped from the sky.

Meanwhile I have two months to catch this back up. Time to work!
