OMG! I am so excited and proud!!!
My teenager just got a letter from RIT- (Rochester Institute of Technology)He has been accepted into their Engineering program! I can`t believe it! This is one of the top Engineering programs in the country.
I could just cry. After all his hard work and struggles -HE DID IT!
(Some of you might remember my son is dyslexic and dysgraphic. Hedidn`t read until 5th grade, and his writing is pretty much illegible. BUT- with his IEP- he uses a laptop for his schoolwork.)

Funding may make this dream impossible I am afraid. He has been nominated by the robotic team for a $28,000.00 scholarship- and I pray he gets it. He is also up for a couple scholarships because of his Eagle Scout rank. I have to meet with the school and see what is available
him, and just maybe wecan make it happen.
He was also accepted at the community college, so he has a back up plan if need be
But- even if we can`t afford it- he got accepted. .

Crystal- I hope so.My daughter is in her 4th year and has gone solely on grants and loans, but this is a more expensive school. She is also a new york state resident (both schools are in nys) and he is a Pa one.
I just pray we can do this!!

Thanks ladies!
We have the federal aid paperwork done, and waiting on a reply. It isn`t enough though. Ugh- this is one time that I do sort of regret my years at home. I was here for them - but we have nothing saved for them for college. One of the sacrifices we made.

Just remember he made it through those challenging school years because you were at home for him.

After you file for financial aide on-line I'd see if the school will allow you to make an appointment with the Financial Aid office once he gets his award to see what additional options you have available to you. Also check on-line at the school's website. We found out later there were alumni and other scholarships available forone of my younger relativesto apply for that she was not informed about through financial aide. I found them by accident while researching what we needed to do to help her improve her financial aide situation. Use their website to the best of your advantage.

It's a great school, DH's cousin's son went to school there and had an excellent experience.

Just don't sweat it, it will all work out.

What about scholarships that are attached to the dislexia? Is that an option?

Bailey- thanks for the tips! I will definately be making an appt with the college asap. My son has a lsit of grants to apply for that came in his packet- so that`s what he`s on at the moment.
Travise- I wonder if there is such a scholarship. I`ll look into it. Thanks!!
