We have these light block shades in the windows from home depot and my room is almost dark when they are closed during the day! They were a little more expensive (about $100 each) but my sleep is well worth it.

In fact, it's the room anyone who is not feeling good goes to sleep in during the day. We love it!

Im a night gal, so I totally understand being a light sleeper because I have difficulty falling asleep.. I can't stand the light, nor can I sleep when it's too noisy! i cant afford those fancy automatic windows that shuts when you press the remote so what i use are really thick dark brown wood blinds for my bedroom... that solves my problems with sunlight

Default Block light from bedroom window

Curtains and window coverings are the big source of decoration but also great way to block light from bedroom window. You can select stylish dark color curtains, these curtains not only block light from bedroom window but also increase decoration of your room.

if you are really in a pinch, hanging ablanket up works really well. I use that tactic when I have a horrible migraine and need complete darkness. Otherwise the blinds work pretty well.

My initial reaction was room-darkening shades. These are relatively inexpensive, and should solve your problem.

Husband can't sleep since his stroke, so I bought these from JC Penney. Here's the link
JCPenney : Cut-to-Width Saratoga 66" Blackout Shade

They're not the prettiest things around but they work, and for me in Florida they keep the heat out too. I put drapes over them, to soften up the vinyl/plastic look. You could also get a heavy grade roman shade. I just didn't want to spend that much money.

According to me, room darkening sheds and much beneficial then anything else as, you can easily get this from any shop and get some colored shades that matches to your room and it will look very good and beautiful.

Apart from this, I think room darkening curtains will also look good but, if you want complete darkness then for that, darkening sheds are the best option to opt.
