So it's confirmed, I tested it last night and I am wheat intolerant. The problem? I am a Philly gal! I love my breads, my pasta, my soft pretzels, my cookies, my crackers, my tortillas, my....well is there anything NOT made with wheat? So what does a girl who LOVES most anything made with wheat eat as an alternative?

Even small amounts give me a reation. Since I've need on the diet the doc gave me I haven't had any horrible sneezing fits, congestion, runny nose, bloated stomach, farting fits, have lost 4 pounds (in stark contrast to the alarming weight gain I was experiencing) and have just felt better overall. It doesn't seem to be gluten because I've been eating oatmeal for breakfast while on the diet and haven't had a reaction.

Well last night all I had was ONE pita and 2 small wheat containing granola bars and within two hours the sneezing began and I woke up this morning feeling like crap, not to mention 1.5 pounds HEAVIER (so much for 3500 calories = 1 pound)Soooo...what does one do? Can I live without wheat forever? What will I eat on my birthday?

You're not supposed to be eating all that stuff anyway, right, according to your doctor? Actually, wheat can be in a LOT of other stuff besides breads and pasta products, so you're going to have to start looking at the ingredient lists on like everything.

BTW, how did you test? Did you have allergy testing done?

You can make your own wheat-free bread, actually, but if you're not supposed to be eating it, I'm not gonna tell you how

Jen WHAT is that behind the big butterfly in your avatar between the top of the wings!?

Well yeah I know I'm not supposed to be eating it......shhhhh! You're not a good enabler you know!

It wasn't a formal test actually. Actually it was during that cleanse you gave me that I discovered that I had an intolerenace when all my symtoms disappeared and then reappeared when I went back on wheat, but apparently it's exasterpated in pregnancy for me. My sneezing is so bad DH and the girls jump when I sneeze! It sounds like I'm screaming at them and really hurts my lungs lol. But I noticed I didn't sneeze for the whole week unti I ate that Pita last night...

Yeah, the elimination "diet" thingy. Okay.

Oh, that's another butterfly - one of the black and yellow ones, but the colors are duller than the rest. Why? What did you think it was? LOL

There is rice flour (wheat free), and somewhere around my house, and you'll probably be able to find it online quicker...lol, is a recipe for sweet potato bread. Sounds yucky, I know, but hey, beggars can't be choosey.

Wheat comes in just about everything these days, I swear, so you may be stuck just not eating anything but whole foods

I replied via PM!

As for the wheat, I guess I may have to just go wheat free ahead of time and just plan ahead for a wheat meal/wheat fit when I can' take it anymore lol

Have you tried a whole foods store? I suffered from hypoglycemia a few years ago and the dr. recommended snack and bread alternatives at a health food store.

I don't bake. (Okay - I CAN'T bake...) and I know our local health food store carries a lot of alternatives.

There's a couple good websites out there with gluten free recipes and products. www.glutenfreeforum.com is a message board for celiacs and those allergic to or intolerant of wheat. Also www.glutenfreeda.com is a great source of recipes.
