Does anyone have experience with affiliate marketing on Youtube?
Iím thinking about creating video content for a particular niche, and putting relevant affiliate links in the descriptions, but I donít want to waste my time.
Do enough people actually click the links, or would you need a ton of views to get anything out of it?
I get that it probably varies between niches, but Iíd love to hear about your experiences.

I'll give you my thoughts as I read your post.

First: You don't want to put your affiliate links in the description box. You want to link to a page on your own website and from there link to the affiliate product preferably.

Second: Marketing on Youtube is much like marketing from a blog in that the video content must have value for the viewer and your video activity must be consistent. The more videos you post, on a scheduled basis, the more interest your channel will gather over time. (And of course, depending on the niche, it will most likely take some time to gather viewers.)

Youtube marketing can be highly productive when you do it right.

I agree with what Joe said. However, I'd say one exception would be review videos.

Just search for "*insert product* review" on Youtube, and you'll see that most, if not all, of the top results have an affiliate link in the description.

In these cases it works, since it's mostly warm traffic (people who are prepared to buy) coming to the videos.

Generally, though, it's best to use Youtube to build your brand and drive traffic to your website instead.

I'm Mohammed echadli and today I'm going to explain what affiliate marketing is and how you can leverage it.
The cool part about affiliate marketing is that it's performance-based marketing. If someone drives you a lead or a sale, you pay them out.
You pay them on a cost per acquisition. Acquisition can be a lead or a sale for you. You determine whatever it is. And you can even determine what you want to pay people. If your product sells for 500 bucks and your margin on it is 250 - in essence you're operating at a 50% margin - and if you decide: "hey I'm willing to pay someone a $100 for every sale they drive me" then you can offer affiliates "Hey for every sale you drive me,
I'm going to give you a $100". And they may decide that they're going to drive these sales through SEO, Pay Per Click, Facebook advertising. Whatever it may be. And that's up to them. That's what affiliate marketing is all about. Now there are a few things that you to know about affiliate marketing.
Number one: it's really hard to recruit affiliates, Where do you look for them right? You can't just go around the web to go find marketers and say "hey, you want to join my affiliate program (http://www.vinaigrefr.com/2018/01/avantages-du-vinaigre-de-cidre_8.html)?".
Instead, you want to join networks like Clickbank.com. So when you join these affiliates networks and you talk to them, they'll tell you: "Hey here's your product. Here's what you should price it at for CPA. This is what you should pay people every time they drive you a sale." And they'll make sure it's competitive and you're not losing money.
Because the last thing you want to do is be willing to pay someone $10 per sale when it costs them $20.
Because if it costs someone $20 to drive you a sale, they're not going to take $10. That means they're going to be losing money.
Especially if you're making thousands of dollars. They're going to be like: "no, you gotta offer more." You have to be competitive. And companies like Clickbank that offer affiliate networks will tell you what you should price your offer at.
There are other ones too, like another site that I use is JVZoo. JVZoo is also another place that you go to recruit affiliates. In addition to that, you can also go to conferences like Affiliate Summit. Affiliate Summit or Affiliate World are really big affiliate conferences where all these marketers go and they're looking for new offers to promote.
So go there and you'll find people who'll be willing to promote your offers and these conferences even teach you how to price your product, what to sell it for, what to give affiliates to incentivize them etc.
The second thing you need to do to continually optimize your own website. If people are driving traffic, but those visitors aren't converting into customers, that means they're either driving irrelevant traffic, but most affiliate marketers are good at what they do.
So usually the traffic sources typically qualify or it means that your web page isn't converting and your web page not converting is usually the issue. So you want to run surveys.
You can use Quaraloo.com. That's a tool that I love using and you can ask people questions on your landing page such as: "What else would you like to see on this page?". After you get 30 plus responses, you'll get a really good understanding of what's wrong and you can fix those things.
As you fix those things, you'll notice that your conversions will go up. In essence, the more visitors coming to your website come more of them will convert into sales because you're fixing the conversion. While before you may have had over a thousand visitors to your website and zero buy, and now it could be that after you fix the conversions, a thousand come and ten buy.
That's improving conversion rates and that's what happens. Another tool that you should use is Crazyegg.com and with Crazyegg it will show you where people scroll, what they click on.
It'll track the mouse movements of your visitors and that will give you insights on what you need to change so that you can maximize your conversion rate. So if you do those two things, you can generate traffic through affiliate marketing, And affiliate marketing is one of the most powerful marketing techniques or tactics out there. Especially for businesses that don't have a tonne of capital. Because you only pay money for sales. And when you're paying out the money for these sales, pay on a Net 30 basis.
Because sometimes you'll get refunds or credit card fraud. You don't want to give out payouts for people who you're refunding. So to ensure that you're not getting ripped off by these affiliate marketers....

They also just made some changes to the YouTube rules. Whereas you need a certain number of views or have a certain number of subscribers or something to that sort.

I remember seeing that but haven't checked it out yet.

Seems to me that Youtube isn't allowing outgoing links in videos without those minimum number of views - or channels without those minimum number of subscribers. I don't remember the exact numbers or where the links would be disallowed.

I did just take a look at my channel (I've neglected it lately by not uploading any recent videos) and see that my links are still in the description areas.

Here are my tips for Youtube:

1. Do proper keyword research ó donít go for oversaturated search terms you have no chance to rank for.


2. Create quality content that has a high average watch time and engagement rate. This improves placements in search results and the recommended feed.

- To increase watch time, besides improving general video quality, make sure the first 30 seconds of your videos capture peopleís attention (most will leave early if the first part of your video bores them; this hurts your average watch time).

- To increase engagement rate, remind people to like, comment and subscribe. The best way to do this is to mention it in the video itself, either by telling them directly or displaying a short text/popup box somewhere on the screen for a limited duration.


3. Social media promotion ó use hashtags, post in relevant groups (but don't spam), network with other creators etc.


4. If you havenít already, create a blog, embed your Youtube videos in relevant posts, and drive traffic (SEO, social and/or paid) to the blog.


5. Purchase web 2.0 backlinks and video embeds on Fiverr. Only to your Youtube videos, though ó never to your blog.


6. If want to bring serious traffic to your Youtube channel in the long-term, you need to upload consistently.


7. Remember to apply for the Youtube partner program when you reach the minimum requirements ( note that new minimum requirements were added this year).

I believe that's just for adsense and sponsorships. From what I understand, you can still use youtube to make money like directing people to your online shop, blog, etc.

Do you use Pinterest? I have tons of luck with Pinterest and gets most of my traffic from there.
I have started a youtube channel but it's hard getting real subs...people will subscribe and expect you to return the favor. If you don't, then they will unsubscribe. If you subscribe, they will wait a few days then unsubscribe and hope you don't notice (so they can keep you as a subscriber). Not everybody does it, but it happens alot.

I stopped posting (need to rethink my strategy) but will be back at it but just for fun. It is very hard to get views because Youtube favors the more popular channels so those who have a high number of views, lots of subs, etc. So, even if you add the right keywords, popular channels with same keyword triumph every time.With that said, if you keep posting consistently, and grow your numbers then your videos will start popping up in the search. That's just what I've read and experienced with my videos.

*Edited to include: I have another channel where I posted a few videos for fun. I forgot about it for a couple months and just checked it the other day. I am almost at 11,000 views (haven't checked since so maybe there's more) with tons of comments and some subscribers. That's just one video. Numbers in my other videos were at 400. So...maybe it's just all luck because I haven't promoted at all or posted anything new. There's just 6 videos. So...who knows how all that works. I have a fitness channel that has very few clicks. Wish that one had been the one lucky one. haha

First of all you will have to optimize your u tube channel. it will work for you only if there are ample of views. and most preferably you should add links in your website itself. It will work better for you.
