Yes.. affiliate marketing still works but it needs lot of effort and money to make it more effective so as to earn money.

The searchengines like Google seems to be biased against affiliate marketing because Google thinks that affiliate marketing reviews can be fake and misleading.

Besides all searchengines want people to use PPC for traffic that can be costly without matching returns, hurting profitability

But still one can be successful at affiliate marketing by using keyword optimized content marketing that needs constant work.

Effective email marketing can also lead to more affiliate sales.

Affiliate marketing does take effort but it does not require a lot of money. There are many free ways to promote and get traffic. :)

Of course affiliate marketing still works!

However, as time evolves, so do the techniques needed in order to promote your particular offer/service/product!

I will admit that right now the emphasis is on FB Advertising, simply because by using Audience Insights and really knowing your targeted market, you can really increase your conversions and of course, improve your ROI!

Sure, folks still do Google Adwords as well as using Bing, but right now, it's all about Facebook/Twitter/Pinterest and now coming out of the woodwork is Snapchat & Periscope!

For those who are not seeing success, more often than not they're going into an already competitive niche with other more knowledgeable affiliates who, of course, not only know what they're doing, but also have a bigger budget.

Start by first understanding your market!
Find out what they want!
Find out why they want it!
Find out how to best get it to them!

Someone who wants to lose weight isn't doing it because their clothes don't fit and have a reunion coming up in 2 months!

They're trying to lose weight because they have no energy right now to play with their kids!

They're trying to lose weight because they're now diabetic and they don't want to be on medication!

They want to lose weight because they're tired of being made fun of!

You gotta know the pain points and understand where they're coming from in order to give them what they need!

Zig Ziglear said it best...

“You can have everything in life that you want if you just give enough other people what they want.”

Once you've found the solution in giving people what they want and you start making some moolah...that's when it becomes the time to SCALE YOUR BUSINESS!

Just like @danasurvey said:

Of course, affiliate marketing still works. Just one rule when planning to engage into Affiliate Programs is to know when you are dealing with Legit and Paying websites. As for me, my best example for good paying website was the one from Payco (https://www.pay.co/ref/aff).

Yes it still works great. You just have to do it through building up a real business. People ruined affiliate marketing by causing Google and others to crack down on affiliates. They did that because people were just doing shady stuff trying to make a quick buck. If you do things legit and try to build a real business you can do very well with it.

They do NOT want you to uses PPC, they want you to create a site with quality content that is useful to viewers. if a site is mostly affiliate links and ads, or poorly written content to try to make it look like a legit site, it will be flagged and penalized as such.

They also look for credit for who builds/authors the site and contact info.

You can't just throw a site up full of affiliate ads with no contact accountability and rank well in search engines. I would also point out a lot of people are using ad blocking browser add ons, so its time to phase out most banner ads for alternative approaches

Affiliate Marking still work but you now have to find a niche for the market. It's that simple found out what they need and supply that product. That it! The problem is they don't want to do the reach it takes to find that market.

I agree 100%. This is why I feel people should pick something they have some passion about, because it will be a lot of work.

Affiliate marketing has taken a hit once Google changed its algorithms, but it's by no means dead. Yes, it involves a lot of work and yes you do need to focus on a specific niche, but if you do so, the rewards can be fantastic. Problem is most folks aren't willing to put in the time or even if they do, they give up far too early before they can see the rewards.

Before in the "olden" times, you could put up a keyword focused article in an article directory (remember those?!) and have it rank within days sometimes within hours on the first page of Google. It was much easier to get FREE traffic and sales without having a website of your own.

Today it does take much effort.

Think about it like this...

You're putting in a lot of effort into someone else's product - a product that you don't own.:-\

There are products/services that I promoted heavily back when they first came out that are no longer even being sold today. All that effort for not!

A lot more people are seeing the value of having your OWN product to promote.

So, yes affiliate marketing still works but its heyday is over!
