This is a wakeup call. We have officially entered the season for spring sales and direct sales recruiting.
Between now and summer, you will see more people out than the past few winter months. While people are coming out of hibernation, the season is a glistening opportunity for spring sales, home parties and the pursuit of sales success.
We say it's always a great time to recruit. However, one mistake I made early in my career was that I got so caught up in ringing spring sales, birthdays, graduations, summer vacations and home parties that my recruiting slipped. While this was unintentional at the time, this came back to bite me at the start of the fall. As a result, it took me a couple of months to regain my team momentum.
Keep your recruiting lenses focused on growth amid your spring sales, summer vacations, and home parties. It is up to you to help prospects see why they want to join now versus later. To do this, first get in touch with your own reasons to recruit now. Below are my top 10 reasons for direct sales recruiting (or sponsoring) to build your team this season:
1. You will be likely to meet more people at booths, farmers markets, and street fairs than during other times of the year. More contact = more leads.
2. Your new team members will have a greater chance to succeed by starting early and taking advantage of the spring/summer shopping season.
3. You will start the fall with fresh, new, and energetic team members. You are laying the foundation for your fall-selling season success now.
4. You are able to enjoy the benefits of a balanced business: selling, sponsoring and building a team.
5. Promote a debt-free summer vacation. You will find more people in a short-term shortage of funds with an interest in earning vacation money.
6. With a heavy spring home party schedule, you have more opportunities to train your new team members by taking them with you. This is smart time management.
7. Your new team members are going to experience higher home party averages now than during the cold winter months, so spring typically reaps a high return on investments of personal time.
8. Now is the time to find people with whom you identify, and like to be around. Surround yourself with a positive, fun team that you enjoy working with. Give everyone a chance to join your team.
9. Targeted recruiting efforts now will help you attract those who have what you want.
For example: Generation Y (also known as the Millennial Generation) are seeking entrepreneurship and mentors. Baby boomers are seeking freedom, exit strategies, and retirement supplemental income. According to the 2012 Social Job Seeker Survey, 75% of employed workers are seeking a new job or are open to a new idea for making income. You never know who is receptive unless you engage in meaningful conversation and ask.
10. Duplicate yourself by finding others, like you, who are likely candidates for this business. Ask: "What do you think being a good fit for this business entails?" You will not know unless you ask yourself this question, and then put it into action.
Take my top 10 reasons for direct sales recruiting (or sponsoring) this spring to heart. Duplicate yourself. Find others who are a good fit for this unique and special entrepreneurial business.
