Has anyone tried stevia instead of sugar? I've been using it in tea, cereal, oatmeal and things like that. My husband has cancer and I really wanted to get away from sugar (and the substitutes). Stevia is an herb and all natural. From what I've read it's the only substitute that does not contain harmful ingredients.

I use Stevia it is all natural and 15x sweeter than sugar substitute teaspoon per teaspoon, you do not need much. It is a rain forest plant. It is great becasue it also helps to equalize blood sugar. You can get a brand that has added fiber too. It really is a great product. I find it works well with most stuff, but not coffee it is very bitter tasting in coffee.

My prayers will be with you and your husband and family, my family just went through a long battle with cancer with a loved one. The most important thing is to stay positive (and it can be difficult), always keep a positive mind set and KNOW he will be healed do not even give any energy to the thought he will not, a negative thought can be defeating for someone battling. Be Blessed and keep up the good work with the alternative research. Keep on keeping on.

I have been using Stevia for a long time. But lately I really don't like the taste. So I've been using organic honey and love it. My favorite is lavender honey, but I haven't been able to find it in the US.
I don't use white sugar and definitely not sugar substitutes.

Sending you prayers and lots of love,

Sorry to hear about your husband!

No, I don't use stevia. I finally got to try it last year and I just could not stand the taste of it. I've never heard anything bad about it yet, just good things.

I use organic sugar most of the time, but I don't find that I really use sugar all that much anyway. Sometimes I will use honey in my tea. Other than that, I don't really use sweetners of any kind.

Thanks for the words of encouragement - and prayers! We pray a lot. He's actually doing quite well. When we first got the news I started doing research on alternative cancer treatments. We were able to implement a lot of natural things and supplements (that's how I found stevia).

He is really doing well and is in remission. His cancer had traveled to his lungs and his oncologist had basically given up on him after the chemo and radiation didn't help it.

But, we are always praying about it and leaving it in God's hands. I believe God wants him to stay here with me and help raise our 10 children!

Have a great day,
Diane

Stevia is good. Also recommended are agave nectar, raw honey, and yacon root syrup. My son had cancer and we ditched the sugar as well! Good luck to your husband in his fight!

I've been wondering about agave nectar. What is it like? What do you use it in? It's always good to learn something new.

Agave is similar to Maple syrup only thinner. We use it in alot of things. Smoothies, desserts, etc. It is my fav sweetener right now!

Hi Oregongal ,

I know the FDA says it is not to be called a sweetner, but can be called a dietary suppliment, I went to the Health store and purchased a product called Xylitol,( you can google it and find lots of info) but I have been using it for over a year when I make macaroni salad, that calls for a half cup of sugar and use Xylitol in place of the sugar it taste the same as when I used to use sugar,I also use it in Iced tea on cereals etc, I hope I've been of some help to you, Have a nice day.

Jim
