View Full Version : Update on DH and I

06-20-2007, 10:15 AM
I just have to share!

When DH and I started on P90X last Monday, the 11th, we swore that we would only measure every 2 weeks, if that (because I couldn't wait for the first 30 days to be over to measure like he wanted to, so we compromised http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif). Anyway, this past Friday morning, the 15th, I made him measure my right arm because I swore I saw a difference. Well, after only 4 days of actually working out, I had lost .25 inches on my right arm! I waspretty excitedabout that, but that's all he would agree to measure.

Well, today I decided when I got home a bit ago that I wanted him to measure my body fat, too, just to see if anything is going on. I did eat at Long John Silver's earlier today http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gif, so my results may have been better had that not happened, BUTin just 8 workouts, my body fat % has dropped by 1.2%!!! And I have been eating like a pig, or so it feels to me because I had to up my calories significantly according to the P90X Nutrition Guide.

The really exciting news is since he measured me, I demanded to measure him because he said his pants are looser already. Well, he got to workout this morning without me, so he was probably even swollen when I just measured him, BUT he has lost....2.5% body fat in just 9 workouts!!! And he's eating more too (and eating better)!

YIPEEE! I'm psyched! http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif

Thanks everyone!

Sorry for the 2nd update so soon, BUT I have to share this!

I had to bribe DH to do it for me, but I finally talked him into measuring me in all areas just a few minutes ago and I am about to bust over here!

As of today, after 9 workouts total (10 days total time), here are my stats:

Chest: - 1.0 inch!
Waist: - .25 inch!
Hips: - 1.0 inch!
Right thigh: - .50 inch!
Left thigh: - .50 inch!
Right Arm: - .50 inch!
Left Arm: - .375 inch! (don't ask me about this odd measurement because I don't know how it happened, but it's - 3/8's of an inch?)

Total: - 4.125 inches in 9 workouts. http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif

I didn't check my BF % 'cause I'm assuming it's the same as yesterday. And I haven't checked my weight in a couple days either, so I don't know what that is.

So I figured up, to get to my ULTIMATE goal, which was my pre-pregnancies stats (yes, I still have them after all this time....LOL), I only need to lose:

1 inch from my chest
2.0 inches from my waist (I might be unable to get back tothat statsince having my kids, but we'll see)
2.25 from my hips (again, this may be an issue because of pregnancies)
1 inch from right thigh and .75 inch from my left thigh
.75 inch from my right arm and1.125 inches from my left arm

What a great anniversary present to me!!! http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif

Holy Moly! http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley20.gifThat is a huge change for just 9 workouts! And it's a 30 day program, right? Just think what you're gonna look like by the end! I'm going to have to get a little more conditioned so I can try this out, I think! lol

http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif <<<<< I'm so happy, hence the HUGE grin! http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif

Jenn, it's a 90 day program, actually. Soooooo....I can only imagine what my body will become by the end of 90 days! I am guessing that I will surpass my ultimate goal above, which will just be icing on the cake!!!

And you have achieved this by folloiwing the P90X nutrition plan right??? How many calories a day are you averaging if I may ask?? Ratios??

You GOOOO GIRL!!! You're gonna be ripped!!!!!

Thanks, ladies!

Vilma, yes, I am trying to follow the nutrition, but really only the ratios because I only go to the grocery store and do my serious shopping once per month (I detest grocery shopping!), and this weekend is my weekend to go, which means I'm in need of some ingredients.

So in the meantime, what I did was - I HAD to up my calories according to their calculations in the NG. Before P90X, I averaged around 1500 calories per day, around 40-30-30, I think. After calculating according to the NG, I had to up them to 2400 (which is Level II)! YIKES! That's why I feel like a pig. I normally do not eat this much http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif
The ratios for Phase I (Fat Shredder) are 50% protein, 30% carbs, and 20% fat. PhaseII (Energy Booster)is 40% protein, 40% carbs, and 20% fat. And Phase III (Endurance Maximizer) is 20% protein, 60% carbs, and 20% fat.

I decided on Phase 2 because it says it's more well-reounded, long-term, and a sensible eating plan. Phase 3 is when you add more carbs and it says it's an athletic diet really. I'm kind of scared to try that one, which they address that fear in the NG as well. Plus I don't feel I am "athletic" quite yet. Anyway, if I hit a plateau, I could always go down to Phase Ifor a couple days. It says in the NG that you can use it for 2 days, 2 weeks or 2 months, BUT if your energy drops, to goimmediately to Phase II. I don't want to take the chance that my energy will drop and I can't make it through the workouts.

There are 3 approaches you can use. At first I was trying to follow the Meal Plan Approach, where they have the meals laid out, so I did not have to keep track of ANYTHING. I need a little flexibility, tho', so I decided last night to go with the Portion Approach and created my own meal plan through tomorrow. The Portion Approach is basically where they list how many servings of proteins, dairy, fruits, veggies, fats, carbs, snacks and condiments you are allotted throughout the day and then you can pick from the lists. I find this provides the flexibility (and control) that I need.

Unfortunately, I haven't calculated today with fiday, so I can't say whether I fell into my goal ratios or not. I should have because I followed the Portion Approach for Phase II exactly.

Oh gosh... you would be surprised at how much we are actually undereating for the kind of workouts that we do...

Your nutrition plan sounds really strong for what you're doing. 2400 calories does seem like a lot, but you do need the energy & like you said, you are monitoring you progress closely, so I think you'll be fine!smileys/smiley20.gif

I can't wait to see yours & your hubby's results!
