Ha ha! Are you all tired of me yet!?http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gifSo I've gone off the deep end and decided to do P90X. After watching the Making Of P90X on youtube I knew this is what my body needed. I've been plateauing (sp?) for a few weeks now and I believe the missing link for me is weights. I've gotten this far on just cardio, light resistance, and diet alone and it's time to take it to the next level. This will be my LAST summer overweight!

I will be officially starting P90X on Monday the 28th (I'll be Turbo Jamming until then woohoo!) In addition I will also be doing a 4 week Candida Cleanse starting the 28th and will journal that as well. After my cleanse, I will be starting Sha***e's C*n*h Inch Loss Program and continuing on with that as well into maintenence. I've done a lot of research into this program and reviewed the clinical trials and believe that this will be the best plan for me (or so we'll seehttp://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif) As you all know I am VERY skeptical of programs that include meal replacements especially since most of them are extremely low cal which leads to dependence on the shakes because of a slowed metabolism that adapts to the 800-1,000 calories the plan allows. This is good for people's businesses as you can't maintain the weightloss if you go ff the products unless you eat VERY little food, but IMO it's unethical. I like the C*n*h comes with a meal plan and is based off of the glycemic index and is flexible to each persona's caloric level. Not only that, but I'll only be responsible for 2 meals a day as C*n*h replaces 3 so less room for slip ups lol.

Anyways, I did the Fit Test this morning and must say I am pretty dern fit!http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gifHere are my results:

Resting Heart Rate (Current): 80 bpm

Pull Ups (Current): I don't have my pull up bar yet (buying this weekend), but I'm sure the number is zero as I couldn't even do ONE when I was at my peak in the militaryhttp://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gifWill update.

Vertical Leap (Current): 11 inches AT LEAST http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley3.gif(I had my hand FLAT against the ceiling lol, I need a higher place to check this obviously) I was shocked by this as the minimum jump for females to pass was 3 inches female and 5 inches male. I bet I can dunk thoughsmileys/smiley4.gifI will take this one again outside and update it. Updated: 12 incheshttp://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif

Push Ups To Failure (Current): 21smileys/smiley18.gifI did really well (the passing grade was 15 for males, 3 for females) but felt like I could at least do 30. Oh wellsmileys/smiley19.gif

Toe Touch (Current): +9.5 inchessmileys/smiley3.gifJust call me gumbysmileys/smiley36.gifTo pass you need at least a -6 inches (6 inches from finger tips to toes) and I went 9.5 inches PAST my feetsmileys/smiley3.gif

Wall Squat (Current): 2 minutes 2 secondssmileys/smiley7.gifI was so mad at y legs for quiting on me! I only needed to last 1 minute to pass so still good!smileys/smiley4.gif

In & Outs (current): 42smileys/smiley4.gifOnly needed 25 to pass. I feel like I could've done more as my abs weren't even burning yet, but my quads were still mad at me for the wall squat and quitsmileys/smiley36.gif

Heart Rate Maximizer: This one you're required to do jumping jacks for 2 minutes the last 30 seconds of which you do an all out sprint and go as fast as possible!smileys/smiley3.gif

Heart Rate Immediately After 2 minutes: 225smileys/smiley3.gif
After 1 minute of Rest: 154
After 2 minutes of rest: 132

Candida Cleanse What is this???

jnmurra
05-24-2007, 02:22 PM
Yahoo, FVMom! You're gonna have a Million Dollar Body in no time! http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif Let me know what you think about Power90 after a couple of workouts. I now have it on my list (thanks to your link to YouTube), but I want opinions on it.

Mary, hope you don't mind me answering your question. The cleanse that FVMom is doing is one in which you cleanse your body with food. You basically eliminate 5 things from your diet and then gradually add them back into see what may be causing your body problems. When we have an overabundance of candida, we can experience a whole host of symptoms, including inability to lose weight, fatigue, headaches, sinus problems, weakened immunity, sugar cravings, etc., and there are actually tests you can do to see if you have a high level of candida. And there are supplements that you take during the cleanse to help with flushing out the toxins, keeping things moving (because if you're constipated, you're not releasing toxins),to help with mood, and also a product sold online called Candex to prevent die-off. (I bought my Candex at Wholesale Supplements).

This is the cleanse I talked about in the other thread that I did back in March and was actually taking in more calories than normal, wasn't hungry at all,and ended up losing 8.2 lbs. in 2 weeks and 2 or 3 days (cut it short accidentally...lol) andhaven't gained it back. I've actually lost more since then and I swear it's because the cleanse re-started my metabolism. I had been on antibiotics quite a bit last yearand so I knew I had a problem not just from that but also other problems I was experiencing, and verified that when I took the candida tests.

You can read more about it here: http://www.askreneesimon.com/workshop/ (http://www.askreneesimon.com/workshop/)

LOL ~ Yes, it's VERY do-able and it's a lot of good food. I only did a few days and had some things going on that made it difficult to plan it out. Not because it's hard, but I just couldn't focus and have my head in the right place. FVM, when are you going to start? Maybe I'll try to do it around the same time...if you don't mind a buddy. :)

Thanks... smileys/smiley1.gif

Another way you can take your resting HR is to lie down some where quiet (no distractions) for about 15 minutes, then take you HR. This should be close to your resting HR when you wake up.

Seriously though, watch for that HR.... I know that (220- your age) is just an estimate of what your MHR should be, but just monitor it closely when it goes above 200. It puts alot of stain on your heart muscle when you keep it up for a prolonged period because the
heart is simply working too fast for any benefit, and your body cannot
replenish oxygen that quickly.

The good thing is that the heart is also a muscle which will get stronger as you do your cardio.

Just looking out girl. smileys/smiley2.gif

hbkeil, youare actually working at about 85%-95% of your Maximum HR (which is just a guideline by the way) which is actually good for your heart.http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley20.gif

The fitter and more well conditioned you get, the lower your HR is gonna be.You should aim at working between 65%-85% to get a good cardiovascular workout.

HR is not the only way you can measure how hard your working... the talk test & perceived exersion are other ways that you can tell if you're working hard enough.

Hope this helps,

Day Three P90X - I burned 900 cals today! Tony is trying to kill me LOL! Ab Ripper X is so tough. I presently struggle with finishing all the reps...this is definately an eight pack maker for sure!!! Today's workout was Shoulders & Arms. I used 7.5 pounds today and 10 pounds on one exercise. I didn't get a really great burn but my muscles were fatigued and I couldn't do more than 15 reps. Not sure if the weight is right. Maybe I need more weight? I dunno. I totally blasted my triceps today but didn't feel a burn. My form was good and I went to muscle failure, but I didn't get a burn. I don't know if I'm doing them right. I'll start a separate thread about that! This is definately a great routine! Will post on the cleanse later today!

Actually, anaerobic is short burst of oxygen. Tennis, golf, basketball, or any start/stop activitie(s) or sports are good examples of anaerobic activites.

Fat can only be used for
fuel in the presence of oxygen and oxygen is only used in longer
duration aerobic activities. When you exercise for a long period of time (30 or more minutes), you are in an aerobic state.

I've also heard/read that doing too much aerobic exercise, or
doing it too hard makes you lose muscle. While itís possible
this could happen, only extreme amounts of high impact, high intensity
cardio can cause large muscle losses to occur. All aerobic exercise will have some effect on muscle, but as
long as you donít overdo it, you shouldnít worry about losing muscle.

Isn't it best to keep in your fat burning zone which in that case is
about 130 bpm. ?

At lower intensities (130 hbpm), you burn a greater percentage of calories from
fat than carbohydrates. However, the lower the intensity, the lower the total number of calories you will burn. If the intensity of an activity is too low, you donít burn enough total calories to have any impact on fat loss.

The higher the intensity, the greater the number of calories
burned. High intensity aerobic exercise burns the most calories and also raises your metabolic rate after the
workout to a much greater degree than low intensity cardio. Any increase in your activity
level, regardless of whether it burns fat or carbohydrate, will have some impact on fat loss.

The most important issue for fat loss is the total number of calories burned.

Thanks for clarifying everything, Vilma. We are taking over FVmom's thread.. sorry FV but I think this is a good to understand since we both have high heart rates. So I know I keep having questions Vilma but now lets take the case of FV mom doing her jumping jacks and having a heart rate of 225..is she anaerobic or aerobic? For her is she excersising extreme to have her heart rate soo high. And what if her heart rate is up there most of the time. Like when I jogging the other day I was 175-199. So I am still aerobic right because i'm not doing the quick energy acitivities?
Thanks for soo much info. Sometimes I really wish I would have graduated in excersice science. It would have been soo much fun. I need to read mroe about it.

Day Four: Today I did Yoga X. I must say it was very challenging, yet not exhausting. I mean I was sweaating buckets and my legs and abs were burning up a storm, but I felt really great stretching too. It was fun. 90 minutes flew by! I'm a little sore, I really need to stretch so I will "try" to do cool it off tonight! Will post later about the cleansehttp://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif

Ok, well I've lightly adjusted my cleanse a bit. I'm now doing the Jay Robb 14 Day Fruit Diet, while maintaining compliance with the Candida cleanse. I was 100% compliant with the Candida cleansehttp://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley32.gifI was compliant as well with the Fruit Diet, except I had one Tostdada (Crispy Corn Tortilla)and a small amount of bean gravy, and 2 Corn tortillas with dinner. Hey, the way I look at it is corn is a vegetable so I'm okhttp://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gifJust don't tell Jay. I feel great and my energy has been stable all day. I feel great!http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gifEdited by: FV Mom

Ok... sorry it took me so long, had to go back to the books &amp; do my research. http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif

First, to finish answeringyour question in previous post:

thanks Vilma.. I thought though when you are working 85-95 percent you are partly burning muscle because your anarobic.?

First of all, how do you feel when you are working at 85-95% of your MHR.?

I know that when I work out inTHAT zone, which for me is: 164-183 bpm (It might be different for you because it really depends on your age &amp; how fit you are) I can't maintain it for a very long time. I lose my breath easily, and have to bring myHR back down to about 75% for me to be able to maintain my cardio for a long period of time (30 minutes or more). When I am able to maintain (witout fatigue) my cardio for long periods of time - I am in an aerobic state. Aerobic literrally means "with oxygen". Most of the activity that we do on a day to day basis is aerobic.

During anaerobic or non-oxygen conditions (higher intensity exercise -exercise that you CANNOT maintain for long periods of time [ex. short burst's of oxygen]), muscle cells must rely on other reactions that do not require oxygen to fuel muscle contraction. This is when fatigue also sets in &amp; you have to slow your exercise down.

So, ifyou are working at 85%-95% of MHR &amp; you cannot maintain it for a long period of time, YES, at the end you are in an anaerobic state. But, not for the wholetime. You worked your way up to that state.

The problem with the terms "aerobic" and "anaerobic" when applied to exercise is that we actually never switch from total aerobic to total anaerobic conditions. The more intensely we exercise, the greater the need for anaerobic energy production to help aerobic energy production. Being anaerobic changes with changes in exercise intensity.

A good example of this isHIIT (High Intensity Interval Training).

Now, to answer your other questions....

Now lets take the case of FV mom doing her jumping jacks and having a heart rate of 225..is she anaerobic or aerobic? For her is she excersising extreme to have her heart rate soo high. And what if her heart rate is up there most of the time. Like when I jogging the other day I was 175-199. So I am still aerobic right because i'm not doing the quick energy acitivities?
Thanks for soo much info.

Yes, she is defenitley in an anaerobic state. I don't think she would be able to maintain this HR up for a long time and eventually she will get fatigued and has to slow her exercise down. She is defenitley exercising at a VERY HIGH intensity for her HR to go above her recommend MHR.

I don't know the complications that there is for exercising above your MHR, I would have to research that as well. All I know is that you will get tired extremeley fast!!!

As for you... I think I explained it above... you are probably at both leaning more towards anaerobic because you would eventually get fatigued and tired and would have to slow your exercise down.

I guess I didn't explain myself enough when I explained anaerobic as being short burst of exercise, huh? smileys/smiley36.gif Sorry. smileys/smiley9.gif

Well, I hope that explains it a bit.

As always, here to help.

~ Vilma smileys/smiley1.gif

** ETA: Extra info:

Another example of anaerobic exercise that I forgot to add is weight training, machines that offer resistance. You can't maintain it for a very long time because you get fatigued (muscle failure).

I remembered that I did a Lab for this some time ago, so I went back to my Exercise Physiology Lab Manual &amp; found this:
<blockquote>As you first start to exercise no matter whether you are walking or running, your muscles immediately begin to use energy to allow them to work. For the first three minutes your muscles will burn glycogen, a special sugar which is stored in the muscles for a quick infusion of energy. Some glycogen is always stored within your muscle tissues. During this period fat is not burned. This process is called anaerobic metabolism. Often during the first few minutes of strenuous activity, especially during anaerobic metabolism, you may experience burning in muscles of your arms, legs or back. This is due to the creation of lactic acid which occurs when glycogen is burned. This burning sensation will soon go away.

As you exercise more than three minutes you will eventually burn up all of the glycogen stored within the muscles and your muscles will move into aerobic metabolism. When this occurs lactic acid production is stopped. This occurs because the glycogen is now being burned in the presence of oxygen which is brought to the muscles by way of the blood stream. As long as you breath correctly you will bring oxygen to the muscles and this process will continue.

P90X Day Five: GREAT workout today! I finally did Cool It Off and my body is thanking me for it! I did legs and back today which I was actually suprised didn't hurt my knee. It was more slow and controlled versus fast and explosive. Wall squats are no joke! AHHH LOL! I really felt my glutes and inner thighs in this workout. Ab Ripper X is really hard to do after this workout because my legs are so fatigued! I am seeing a lot of positive changes in my body already! Increased muscle definition in my tummy area, also my legs are becoming more and more tone! I can't wait to see how I look by day 30!!!

99% on plan today (had about 2 teaspoons of milk and 4 pieces of beef in my beef stew). I didn't follow the Jay Robb plan to a "T" today as I was a little too hungry lol so I had some chicken this afternoon. I finished my slimming formula today and I can tell a slight difference. I'm a bit hungrier than usual, tommorrow is a high cal day woohoo!http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gifEdited by: FV Mom

P90X Day Six: Only one word describes Kenpo X...FUN! This workout is second only to Turbo Jam! The cool think about martial arts is your heart rate will be way up there, but you don't even notice because you're concentrating on the moves. I stayed betwween 85-99% of my MHR the entire time! Ha ha, I feel like a real fighter now! smileys/smiley36.gif I also did X stretch and I really like this one too. I think I'll rotate that and Cool It Off. My goal is to do a stretch every monring to keep soreness at bay. Knee pain is gone woohoo!

Cleanse today was *almost* perfect. I messed up lol by eating a whole 20 pack of big red!smileys/smiley36.gif Don't laugh it was the only thing edible around at the timesmileys/smiley36.gif. Cre8tivgurl gave me her sleepniess syndrome!!!!! I've been so exausted for the past several days and no matter how much sleep I get, I ca't seem to beat the groggies! I know I'm not suffereing from over taining and my TOTM is like 2 days late so I figure this is some new type of PMSs symptom or something. Hey, beats cramps!smileys/smiley36.gif

Hey everyone, so sorry I've been neglecting this journal! Here are my updates

Day Eleven: TWO workouts today! I missed yesterday's work ut (Shoulders &amp; Arms + Ab Ripper X) So I did it today and am so happy I did! It was awesome. I did Yoga X today as well. I decided on a whim to do the Jay Robb Fruit Flush fully after seeing Vilma's awesome progress! So far so good today!

Day Twelve: Today's workout was Legs 7 Back and oh my goodness is wrecked me! My legs are on Fiyah! I hate it, but I love it! I'm noticing more definition and less fat in my tummy area. My body fat is down today.

Day Thirteen: I really love Kenpo X, this workout is so fun, it's over before you know it! I also am pretty excited because today I weighed 169 today PLUS I was down to 28.5% body fat! That means I'm down 3 pounds and 1.5% body fat in 2 weeks! Pretty cool!http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif

2 weeks ago:

172lbs @ 30% body fat = 120.4 pounds lean mass, 51.6lbs fat

Now:

[email protected] 28.5% body fat = 120.8 pounds lean mass, 48.2lbs fat

Gained 0.4lbs lean mass, 3.4lbs lost fat! Awesome!http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley32.gif

Ok, I'm switching to weekly updateshttp://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gifI've been extremely busy with my business and haven't really had much time to post.

I am in the milldle of week 4 recovery week. I have to admit I miss the weights and pull ups cruel as they are! I did Core Synergystics for the first time yesterday and I don't know if I'm weak or uncorrdinated or both but man I need help on that workout!http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif

I started Kimkins {Kimmer's Experiment) on Monday and am doing well with it so far. I'm only using the allowed foods on the candida cleanse and still taking the Candex so who knows, maybe this will completely starve off that Candida once and for all!

Week 5: Today is my first week of doubles cardio! I'm sure between this and Kimkins I will get totally RIPPED! Will be back later to reporthttp://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif

Well I started out today with Turbo Jam woohoo! It was INTENSE! My body loves using fat for fuel apparently! Man that was so fun!

This afternoon I did Chest, Shoulders &amp; Triceps and Ab Ripper X. Man this muscle confusion is a trip! My body totally forgot how to do Ab Rippper! I had major twitch going on (good thing). During CST my triceps were twitching like crazy! I'm gonna feel this tommorrow!http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gifI do need to increase weight though. I went a little too light today.Edited by: FV Mom

So you've lost about 10 lbs. or so? Wait, you were 173 when you started, weren't you (trying to remember http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif)? So that makes 11 lbs.! And your BF% was like 29%, so you've lost 2.5% BF in...has it been 2 weeks yet?

Week Six: Still plugging along. Session two is DEFINATELY more challenging than session one, especially doulbes. Today was supposed to be Plyo today, and as much as I dislike that workout, I was going to press through it. I ended up only making it through the warm up (barely) and did Cool It Off instead. Man that really helped. My legs were still so tight from legs and back and I did that LAST Friday! I totally toasted my arms yesterday with Shoulders, chest, and triceps, plus ab ripper X really got e good! I guess you can work the abs more with a smaller belly lol because I felt it big time! So although I could've let my Ego get in the way, I remembered what Tony said: Ego = Injuries. So from now one I will be doing Cool It Off on the mornings I don't do doubles cardio. It is essential to the routine I see now. No more getting away with no stretching for mehttp://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gif

Welll, I guess my first attempt at P90X has become P45X insteadhttp://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley19.gifI think it's been a combination of all the weight bearing moves, the jumping and twisting but my knee is too done. I was getting ready to work out today and all of a sudden I started getting shooting pains in my knee! I wasn't going to take the chance. There's other ways to workout without injuring yourself, so I'm taking a break from it for a while. I'll be doing a mix between WATP, pilates, and Turbo Jam (non jumping workouts like Punch. Kick &amp; Jam, Ab Jam, and Burn)

I think Legs and Back and Yoga are what really did me inhttp://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley19.gifSo I figure I'll take a couple weeks off to heal and then jump back in at week six.
