I just started doing article marketing to my site. I'm wondering if the article submissions are solely for backlinks or do you actually see traffic directly from them.

You can see some traffic from them every now and again but nothing that huge in my opinion. I mainly use them for the purpose of acquiring backlinks

You need to do your homework before sharing information.

eHow hasn't accepted articles from writers for over a year.

Buzzle has stripped many articles of the backlinks in them.

You have ArticleDashboard twice.

Isnare charges fees for syndication and has long wait times for approval.

This depends entirely on the topic and how good the article is. If an article is well written with a strong call to action in the bio box and it is for a topic that people are searching for and would want to know more about the articles can be a very significant source of free traffic. You have to give people a good reason to go from reading the article to visiting your site - like a free report, for example. I have had more than a thousand clicks from a single article, though most obviously provide just a small fraction of that.

That's a great list of article submission sites. There is also a free tool available called Article Submission Helper which will submit your articles to 125 article directories for free. I just thought that I'd share a free way to help you all submit your articles alot quicker.
