Default Why do the majority of affiliates never make any money?

Affiliate Marketing is a great way to work from home and generate an income.

But why do the majority of affiliates never make any money?

They fail to prepare by doing no research or brainstorming
They choose the wrong affiliate programs
They have no website or a very poor one
They have little or no traffic to their website or blog
Design an amateurish look and feel
Fail to build a list of topics that will be profitable (i.e., that are in-demand, without too much competition)
Create poor content that does not hold a visitor's attention and respect
Host at a free Web hosting service (#1 credibility destroyer)
Fail to master the Search Engines.

What do you think?

They want to "get rich quick" and don't realize that it takes time and effort... so they give up!

Smile Quitting

I started this venture two years ago and was not focused and ended up feeling overwhelmed without any clear direction. I put it on the back burner for two years.

I am back, and I will not quit this time~!

All the reasons you wisely gave above, I think.

I suspect that these things all boil down to Two Big Issues.

1. Affiliate marketing's like a hurdle race. (I stole this analogy from a friend who's a very successful affiliate marketer for a living). The difference is that if you do several different things/aspects/stages (as one must) and fail to earn money, you don't usually know at which hurdle you fell, and that makes it really hard to correct it and improve.

2. Just as is true for the area of my own business (network marketing), most of the readily available help/support/advice you can get online is actually misinformation and can very easily be completely unhelpful, and when you're a newbie, you don't have the judgment to be able to identify the fewer people whose information is genuinely good, and helpful, and they tend to be people who "make less noise" anyway.

Because of a combination of various reasons boiling down to one and/or the other of those Two Big Issues, many people understandably get disillusioned and give up.

Totally agree! I've been doing this for nearly 3 years. I started out making $13 a month. I could have given up but I knew that if I could make $13 a month I could make $1300 a month if I stuck with it and continued doing what I was doing. I was right and then some.

I agree with all of the above. I have had students get sidetracked by the next shiny new thing, not realizing that they don't need another program, they need to finish what they've started. Very few follow through to the point where their efforts produce income, thinking that if they try something else, surely that will be the magic pill.

You have to find what works, and keep doing it over and over again.

Lack of perserverence.
I've learnt that especially with affiliate websites, focusing on the affiliate marketing side of things too much instead of developing the website can be a pitful for many starting out.

Red face 3 biggest reasons most affilliate marketers fail to succeed

1. they expect it to work quickly and give up when it doesn't
2. they fail to provide useful content on their blog or website to bring in the customers
3. see number 1.

Default When should I expect Results

I am new to Affiliate Marketing. I started with ClickBank on 10/24/10. When should I start seeing results and how do I know if someone clicked on my HopLink? At this time, I am only posting to free ad sites using keywords.
