Using the Internet to Advertise Your Stylist Business

If you are a stylist and you would like different ways to advertise your stylist business, then you should definitely consider the Internet as your most important promoting venue. There are dozens of ways to advertise your stylist business on the Internet, and most of them are even free!

Create a Website

To begin with, you need to create a website. You don't have to pay hundreds or thousands of dollars to have someone else make it for you. As a matter of fact, you can get free site or a semi-customizable one for around $10 per month (that includes templates for making web building easier than ever). But beware: these lower cost alternatives have a high risk of looking unprofessional, and they will not be found in the search engines. They are, however, a good place to start if your budget prohibits getting one done by a professional.  It is also worth considering the cost of business lost due to an unprofessional looking site.

There are a couple of things that you should include on any website. Aside from your name and contact information, you also should have your prices listed. This will tell people whether they can afford your services and help them to decide if they want to choose you. It is a good idea to include "internet specials"; make sure to add a printable coupon to encourage people to visit your site.

Use Keywords Appropriately

If you want to show up in search engines, such as Google, then you will need to use a lot of appropriate Meta tags, or keywords. This is very important as it will help search engines to index your site which will help it to turn up in the search results; the end result is that people will find you.

Keep a Blog and Write Articles

Another way to get indexed effectively with the search engines is by keeping a blog or writing articles (make sure you include your website's URL in your article's author box). For instance, you could write an article about "10 Great hair Care Tips for the Winter Months." If you submit this piece to free article directories, other website owners may find the content interesting and post it on their sites. Since the link to your website is in the author's box, visitors will be able to find your site; your site will get more traffic and benefit from the back link. A blog is also useful for this; search engines love blogs that are updated regularly with fresh content.

Advertise on Other Sites

Another way that you can advertise your stylist business on the Internet is to list your business on websites such as Craigslist. It might help you to add a promotion for people who mention the ad.

Send Newsletters

Some people have success in building up an email list to send newsletters; this is a way to keep in touch with clients and send occasional promotional material. You don't want to spam your list; so try not to send them too often. Also, don't just make the emails exclusively advertisements; include useful and practical information in them, too, so that people won't feel so intruded on.

Post on Beauty Message Boards

Once you have created your website, use your URL in your email signature; i.e. when you send an email, include your website address right under your signature. When you post something on a message board, do the same. Creating an interesting tag line might also be helpful as it will make people want to check out your website.

Join Social Networking Sites

It can also help to create a MySpace, Facebook, and Twitter account. Again, don't use spam, but do keep people updated with what is going on in your business. People generally join social networking sites to interact with others, not to read advertisements, but having an Internet presence is beneficial.

These are just a couple of examples as to how you can advertise your stylist business on the Internet. Remember not to clutter up walls or news feeds with your advertising, people generally don't like that. Instead find interesting information that people can find helpful. They will appreciate you for it.
