"If you build it, they will come," sounds great in a movie script, but it's not the reality for a website that doesn't employ marketing and promotion tactics. To build web traffic, you'll need to be craft a plan to get visitors to the website, and work that plan on a consistent basis to achieve results. Most marketing and promotion ideas are simple to implement, and are free or low cost.
1. Product Giveaways
One of the best marketing promotion ideas that can create a buzz and generate traffic to your website is to give away something. To set yourself apart, you have to offer something that is unique. If web visitors can find it on Amazon, the product giveaway won't work.
The product doesn't even have to be related to your actual products or services. For example, when you visit a bank booth at a local event, they often giveaway products, like an iphone or gift basket that has nothing to do with banking services. Make visitors curious to come to the website, and when they come, they can learn more about you.
2. Introductory Offer
An introductory offer works like a product giveaway, but this time you'll offer your actual service or product. If you make it a deal too good to refuse, it has the potential to go viral. Create a video about the introductory offer, and post it on your website as well as on YouTube. Use as many social media channels as you can, such as Twitter, to promote your introductory offer.
3. Promote Someone with a Following
Find someone with a following, who also targets your audience. Promote them on your website, through a written or podcast interview. The loyal followers will want to see what that person has to say on your website. There are many reasons why more successful business owners and others may agree to grant you an interview:
- To promote a new book or product they're selling
- They believe in your business model and want to help you succeed
- You have a business relationship or friendship with them, so they'll do it as a favor
The more successful that person becomes, the more web traffic you'll gain, because the webpage with the interview will forever be indexed by the search engines.
4. Cross Promote with Other Businesses
There are similar businesses to yours that aren't your competitors. When possible, try to form relationships with those business owners and look for opportunities to engage in cross promotion. Some marketing promotion ideas for cross promotion campaigns include:
- Exchange links
- Post each other's ads
- Review one another's products
- Promote new product in email newsletter
It's important to agree to promote each other on your websites for a finite period of time, so that you can gauge the results. If there isn't a mutual benefit, then it may not be a good idea to keep the cross promotion going.
The main problem with implementing marketing promotion ideas is finding the time or freelancer to help you. If you can solve those problems, you'll reap the rewards in increased site traffic.
