Don't have time to read 20 articles on selecting the best camp for YOUR child? Check out this quick guide.

Every June and July, caring parents just like you find themselves frantically searching the web for a summer camp that's close to home and suits their child's needs. With lots of camps starting each week and the clock ticking, knowing where to start can be a bit stressful...

That's why we've enlisted the help of Steve Pence, President of US Sports Camps to get his top tips for finding the right camp quickly. Here's what he had to say...

A good starting point for any parent searching for camp is right in the palm of their hands or at their work desk.

Not that you wouldn't start there anyway, but a quick Google search of 'basketball camps', 'golf camps' or whatever your child's favorite sport is and you'll get a good idea of what's available in your local area. Spend some time researching the different camps near you. Keep in mind that if you're looking for an overnight camp or a specialty camp of sorts, you'll want to give yourself some extra time since you may need to look at flights and possibly coordinating with friends.

Which leads to the next best way to find the right camp... Talk to your friends!

Nobody is going to give you a better recommendation on camp than your own best friends! As you know, you can trust them more than anyone else and they've probably heard from other friends about camps in your local area. One idea you might find helpful is to split up the online research with a couple other Mom's. Then get together and discuss what you've found. When you're late to the game on signing up for summer camp, this can be a great way to save time and stress.

After just a few days, you should have a pretty good list of camps that you've narrowed the decision down to. This list of camps should fit yours and your kids busy summer schedule, be in your price range and have really great reviews.

Now it's time to grab your space in a camp. Most camp operators have a user friendly website and checkout process but if you ever get stuck, they also should have customer service staff ready to help you. This last step can be the most daunting since, let's face it, summer camps can be expensive...

But remember, the advantages gained by participating in supervised competitive sports at an early age are gifts that can last a lifetime. The life lessons and character building that can happen in just one week is truly remarkable!
